Hot Air Survey: July Results (2016 presidential poll)
Hot Air ^ | July 30, 2014 | Patrick Ishmael

Cruz control, indeed. Taking 41% of the vote, Ted Cruz is your new primary leader, taking over from Scott Walker who finished in second at 15%. Rick Perry, Rand Paul and Mitt Romney round out the top 5.

Cruz also won the second choice vote, although by a much smaller margin, edging Walker and Perry. Bobby Jindal and Ben Carson round things out.

Cruz, Walker, Perry, Jindal and Carson are the most “acceptable” among the candidates posed.

As to the most important issue, readers believe general election voters will be most interested in the economy, followed by immigration, health care and foreign policy. And yes, readers still view implementation of Obamacare at the state level as being essentially the same as voting for it at the federal level — by very wide margins.

Two notes. First, in the future I’m going to try to have us use a more neutral “survey image.” Readers have surmised that the blog post’s picture on the front page might pump up supporters of the candidate featured. Better to avoid that.

Second, some readers have suggested that we add Sarah Palin to the list of potential candidates. (A sampling: “That you leave Palin out shows you are a FOOL.” “I know you HATE Her, sut [sic] she has integrity and viability.” Etc.) I welcome Palin supporters to continue to write her in. So far, the “Other” vote breaks all sorts of ways, including votes for Sarah Palin, Gary Johnson, Jeff Sessions, Allen West, Hillary Clinton, Steve King, Trey Gowdy, a camel of some kind, and others. To my surprise, there have been no votes for Zombie Reagan. Yet.

Point being, all of the write-ins combined account for 3% of the total primary vote. I appreciate the vocal nature of her staunchest supporters, but in the absence of credible affirmation of her interest in running for President and in light of the minimal write-in interest we’ve seen so far, Sarah Palin will not be formally on the ballot for the foreseeable future. In the meantime I invite Palin supporters to continue their write-in efforts. After all, a lot can change between now and 2016.

Thanks again.

There are still too many conservatives who are duped by Rand Paul.

It looks like the guy doesn’t like Gov. Palin and he’s getting quite a bit of pushback on it. Joe Scarborough? Seriously?

Sadly the MSM still seems to have the power to utterly destroy any candidate who would truly get us excited.

What does it matter? The media and the DC elites will endorse Christie or Jeb, and tell you how they will tromp Hillary. DC is not friendly when it comes to a kick ass politicians. They want Wusses who favor crony capitalism in their club, not Leaders.

Sarah Palin is a great person, sincere conservative and Christian, she would probably be a decent president, but there plenty of people I’d put before her. She was governor for 2 years. I need to see what she’ll actually do in office.

Also, putting Joe Scarborough may be to show how little respect he has among Republicans. He got 2 votes. You’re right though, Hotair was communicating something by leaving Palin out.

Sarah Palin: Elected to her hometown City Council (1992); Elected mayor, cut property taxes 75 percent (1996); Elected president of the Alaska Conference of Mayors (1999); Appointed to the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, and was the commission’s ethics supervisor, then chairman (2003); Filed an ethics complaint against a member of the Oil and Gas Commission, who was chairman of the state’s Republican Party, who resigned and paid a fine; Joined in an ethics complaint against Alaska’s Republican attorney general, who resigned; Defeated the incumbent Republican governor in the gubernatorial primary; Defeated the former Alaskan Democratic governor, at the age of 42, becoming the first female and youngest governor in Alaska’s history (2006); Strived to clean up Alaska’s good ol’ boy fraternity with an ethics reform bill, one of her first projects as governor; Reduced expenses 80 percent from the previous governor’s gubernatorial expenditures; Promoted oil and gas development in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge; and is a remarkable fisherman, hunter, homemaker and mother, all this along with a sense of humor. She was unmercifully vilified precisely because her accomplishments were substantial when compared to Sen. Obama’s. It’s a mystery how she accomplished so much when so many continue to believe her a low-IQ idiot. With her success in rooting out dishonest and unethical politicians there is little wonder that our media despises her call for our president’s impeachment.

Sarah Palin is a self-made woman with an impressive career who broke into politics without the head start of a powerful husband or father and has a history of being a reformer and taking on powerful interests for the benefit of ordinary people. City council, mayor, Governor, oil and gas commission, VP candidate, already vetted, been scrutinized every way possible and still standing strong. Long list of accomplishments and over 20 years of experience. As Governor Sarah Palin didn’t just cut spending; she saved, reformed, and prioritized like a good fiscal manager. She invested $5 billion in state savings, overhauled education funding, paid down debt, invested $2.6 billion in an education fund for the future, and funded a Senior Benefits Program to provide support for low-income Alaskan seniors.

In stark contrast to President Obama and other governors whose fiscal records are dogged by credit downgrades, Palin left Alaska with an improved credit rating during and following her tenure as governor. Standard & Poor’s raised Alaska’s credit rating from AA to AA+ in April 2008. Then in 2010, both Moody’s and Standard & Poor’s upgraded Alaska to AAA for the first time in the state’s history due to policies enacted by Palin that made the state’s finances more than solvent. Taking on corruption and crony capitalism has always been a cornerstone of Sarah Palin’s agenda; in Alaska she did take on the old-boy network — the oil companies and her own party.

As oil and gas commissioner, Sarah Palin called out the unethical practices of members of her own party. As Governor, she sought to end the back room deals and improper relationships between oil companies and politicians.

After the 2008 election Sarah Palin helped lead Republicans to the greatest congressional victory in several generations during the 2010 election with her endorsements and rallies all over the country ;she has endorsed 73 candidates for the US House of Representatives and Senate; state governors and attorney generals. Her success rate is at 69%. 18 out of 20 targets in her Take Back the 20 campaign ; this is a 90% success rate! Sarah Palin also had a very strong hand in the party’s few successes during this election . Sarah Palin campaigned for constitutional conservatives like Ted Cruz, Deb Fischer, Paul Gosar, resulting in 5 conservatives being elected to the Senate and 32 conservatives to the House. She has repeatedly been a leading voice against the dangers of ObamaCare and the risks of President Obama’s approach to energy and was the first Republican to make a high-profile critique of the Federal Reserve’s quantitative easing, though even earlier she had marked the collapsing value of the dollar as one of her issues.

Sarah Palin is lightyears ahead of most of the yo-yo’s on this list.

Just saying. She ran for the vice-presidency, and upon returning to public office (upon RETURNING to public office) found she had become enemy #1 for the entire political left, and a portion of the right. Including it appears, the column which is quoted right here.

Palin is a very strong candidate for President in 2016. Very strong. Before running for Vice President she had the single HIGHEST approval rating in any America state.

She however faces opponents in both political camps.

I remain firmly on Palin’s side.

Governorships, folks, that is where we need to look.

My choice: Scott Walker.

For VP: Bobby Jindal or Nikki Haley.
