Senate Budget Committee ranking member Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) told Bostons conservative radio host Howie Carr on Wednesday that the political momentum is starting to turn against the Gang of Eight immigration bill.
When Carr asked the senator if this process behind the push for this bill is the same thing as Obamacare where we have to pass it so we can read it, Sessions replied: Absolutely, it really is.
That is exactly what it is, Sessions said. Theyre selling the sizzle. Theyre selling the smell. And its a shoe leather instead of a steak.
Carr said that though everyone can agree that the immigration system is broken, Americans should not support the Gang of Eight bill because it would make the system worse. Instead, Carr argued people should support a yet-to-be-introduced solution that actually solves the problems at hand and this issue does not need to be an all-or-nothing deal with the Gang of Eight bill.
That is exactly correct, Sessions responded. And Professor [George] Borjas at Harvard, the leading expert on immigration and labor, has made so clear in his work that basically what he concludes is any benefit to this economy is at the expense of lower income workers salaries going down.
When Carr asked if Gang of Eight supporters had the votes to pass the bill in the House or Senate, Sessions said that they are claiming they have it in the Senate.....

Put aside whether you view immigration as good or bad. I don’t see how any sane person could vote for a bill that allows criminals in and that puts all of these people on Welfare. Its insanity.
It’s not a gang!! Its a cluuub
We can call it The Club for Fake Growth, since that crumb is all the Republicans would ever get out of the bill.
Hope Sessions is right.
no new laws. 99% of what Congress passes just creates more government and draws in more immigrants.
This is more bait and switch.
No Amnesty. no new laws
repeal the 1965 immigration act( This is what caused immigration to come from the 3rd world which in turn provided a home base for further illegal immigration)
repeal Obamacare
keep repealing laws
When Carr asked if Gang of Eight supporters had the votes to pass the bill in the House or Senate, Sessions said that they are claiming they have it in the Senate.....
Who is Pedro?
Never mind.
Anybody who uses that as the guts of a debate is somebody I’d rather not consult.
I’m all for that! Keep repealing until the US Code looks like a Chinese restaurant menu.
<><> The tax-financed Boston bombing has derailed the Obama legacy train.
<><> Events are unfolding that turn Rubio into a full-fledged lame duck.
<><> The sap-happy "reform" reporting continually omits crucial facts about "immigraton reform."
<><> Americans are disgusted w/ the us- against-them nature of "ethnic solidarity".
<><> The shock of the tax-financed Boston Marathon Bombing reinforced the folly of reform.
<><> Stupid, derranged, vote-crazed pols just can't stop sucking-up.
<><> Residents are up in arms--- the Mass government was caught red-handed financing "ethnic solidarity"---in the form of massive tax-funded welfare benefits to the bomber family.
<><> It's an outrage that the Chechneyan bomber family pocketed $100,000 from a host of local/state/federal giveaways---appears pols sucked-up bigtime, anxious to finance "ethinic solidarity."
<><> The stupidest Mayor in Amerca---Boston's Menino---was prostrate in obeisance---actually gave Islamics a $2 million piece of land for $170,000 to build the notorious Boston mosque (where the bombers worshipped).
<><> Americans see the handwriting on the wall---Obomba made a dirty deal w/ Mexico to export food stamps across the border....even without "reform".
<><> THE GIMME ZOMBIES The latino lobbyists who wrote the Schumer-Rubio "immigration reform" bill demanded "ethnic solidarity"--- includes "slush funds" amounting to $150 million tax dollars to latino-centric groups like La Raza, which advocates bloody, violent uprisings agaiinst Americans.
Kill it there in the Senate. The Usurper owns the Senate and is banking on this passing and getting to the House where he knows it will die, From there he will be in constant campaign mode against the Republican House.
Keep the pressure on the Senate to kill this thing.
The GOP-e thinks amnesty will help them win the next election. Democrats respond: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7KnXz_qZ5RE&feature=plcp
Thanks, 2ndDV.
Rush and Mark are being accused of being for this. Because they’ve treated Rubio well, but people willfully ignore that with every breath they OPPOSE THIS BILL.
Ditto Hannity, Beck, et al.
We have both might and right on our side.
I can’t tell you how it angers me - there are no words - that the DCers huddle together in back rooms and come out with a monstrosity like this, while at the same time we have Boston terror bombers right under our noses, living off welfare, and trundling back and forth, back and forth, to the same country they were given asylum from years ago, with no repercussions to those people.
Oh, but if the terror mom sets foot on our soil again, we can all feel relieved that the Lord & Taylor store’s shoplifting complaint against her will bring on her immediate arrest.
Shoplifting. Oh well. They got Al Capone on tax evasion...
THESE BIG GOVERNMENT NERDS (Thank you Sarah) have screwed up everything they touch, and now THEY are going to FIX IT?????
I don’t think so...
Sessions was the tip of the spear that killed immigration reform last time. Despite all of Kennedy, McCain and Specter’s antics, it went down to defeat. Back then, Specter, a liberal, was chairman of the judiciary committe and then its ranking member, so he and Leahy agreed on most things. This time, Sessions is the ranking member and will not let up.
only 4% of the American people think immigration is an important issue to address
we don't need more immigrants as there are no jobs for people here
importing millions of anti-American socialists from the 3rd world is no way to improve a country
I have absolutely no problem what-so-ever with farm workers being allowed a temporary work permit for seasonal work where they come across for harvest etc. However, there should be no citizenship benefits and no permanent residents other then through the regular immigration system. Anchor babies should be done away with altogether. If you are here legally, and a child is born they should be citizens, if you are on a work permit or here illegally, then the child should be a citizen of the country of it’s parents. Temporary workers should only be allowed when there are no American’s out of work and needing that job.
33 million illegal aliens waiting in line to sign up for ObamaCare. This is gonna be good.
I’m sure the Republicans will find a way to salvage it.
A whole bunch of things are listed under the “we promise to” column, including strict border enforcement. What a total joke. Chuck U and his buds can hide a lot in an 800+ page bill.
“Rush and Mark are being accused of being for this”
I don’t read your replies to me, because all you do is lie, but happened on this one.
POINT out anyone who has said Rush and Mark are for Amnesty.
This debate isn’t about YOU, and you need to let go of this lie that you’ve carried through several threads.
When people like you give up their cult of personality and focus on the problems this mess might change.
POINT out anyone who has said Rush and Mark are for Amnesty ( if you can call it AMNESTY, like Rush can’t seem to)
or clam up!
Stop spreading this lie about other freepers. What good does that do you or Rush??
People are upset because Rush is coddling Rubio, not because he approves the gang of 8 bill and YOU know it!
Let's start calling them "The Gang of Ocho". More descriptive.
