Bret Bair just reported on Fox News that the U.S. will be sending 100 to 200 Special Forces troops into Georgia before the week is out..

Maybe ben Laden is hiding in that house. That has to be checked out. Even if the house belongs to the Minister of the Interior, - the head of the Georgian government said. According to him, long before this statement Georgia had taken appropriate measures towards the stabilization in the Pankissi Gorge. For instance, he reminded about the checkpoints that the Internal Guard Troops had set up. Georgia is not considering the possibility of conducting a joint military operation with Russia in the Pankissi Gorge, because it is not permissible, - the President stressed. According to him, even though Georgia is not a strong state military-wise, it is strong enough to put things in order on its own territory.
Eduard Shevardnadze had also expressed his readiness to conduct a dialog with the US special services in case it's necessary. These problems are not currently considered on a systematic basis, he said while commenting on the recent statements by the acting US Ambassador to Georgia Philip Remler about a possible presence of Afghan Mujahideen in Pankissi.
Meanwhile the Chairman of Georgian Parliamentary Committee of Defense and Security, Georgy Baramidze, does not rule out that the US and other NATO members may conduct some sort of an anti-terrorist «micro-operation» on Georgian territory. During his interview with a number of Georgian mass media Baramidze said that such kinds of military operations will be conducted all around the world, and in that case Georgia is not an exception. But the operations will of course not be of such a large scale as they were in Afghanistan, - the parliamentary had said.
According to him, the Georgian government is acknowledging the presence of serious problems in the Pankissi Gorge. It is preferable of course, if Georgia could solve these problems on its own. However, here we cannot do without the technical, financial and other kinds of support of the US and other NATO members, - Georgy Baramidze believes.
He also noted that the Georgian side will not mind if special counter-terrorist units of the Western states will join in to solve the «Pankissi problem». The NATO involvement in bringing order to the Pankissi Gorge would be quite acceptable for Georgia, - Baramidze had said. At the same time, he strongly ruled out that Tbilisi (Georgian capital) should agree to let the Russian side conduct any sort of a military operation in the region. The parliamentary mentioned that the Pankissi Gorge problem did not just appear out of the blue, but is a result of the ongoing war in Chechnya.
Ever since the Second Russian-Chechen war started, back in 1999, over 7,000 Chechen refugees fled to Georgia. And the majority of them have found refuge in the villages of the Pankissi Gorge.

I fell in love with this country many years ago while we were adopting a child from just outside of Tbilisi. They have some of the best food I have ever eaten. They have the best wine in the entire world. They are renowned for a choral technique which is not known anywhere else in the world. Their history is so old that it is impossible to ascertain where the Georgian people originally came from. It is thought that they were always there, in Georgia.
The Georgian people are known for their hospitality, friendliness, and gregarious nature. My son's strong sense of humor has it's origin in his genetics. Georgians are uniformly warm, welcoming and delightful. They also have the world record for longevity. It is not unusual for Georgians to live to be 100 years old, and this country has produced more people living to that age and beyond than any other in the world.
They speak a lovely lilting language which I studied briefly as we adopted our son. Their alphabet is a unique and very ancient script. Their people are proud and gentle, as I came to know them.
That and the fact that even if Al-Queda does read the FR forums this post won't be able to prepare them for our assualt. They had better run real fast. If this report is out it means that the operation has already begun.
There is a real problem of al Queda/Chechnya Islamic Fanatics in Georgia. Apparently they have linked up with the Georgian Organized Crime guys. The villages of the Pankissi Gorge and around the villages are rumored to be over run with some really bad al Quedas.
So this is an easy way for the Georgian leaders. Get US Special Ops in to get rid of these Islamic Killers. Georgia will provide air bases and may even use their planes (we probably don't want their planes and pilots). The Russians stay out of Georgia, and we will leave when the job is done!
There must be a lot of economic gain for the al Queda's to be in Georgia working with Georgian Organized Crime. One way to kill the hydra is to kill off the various snake heads and their financial sources.

Of course, my favorite Georgian saint is St. Tamara: she was the Queen of Georgia in the late 12th century, and according to the Synaxarion did much to build up the Church, worked great works of charity, was a just judge, rode into battle a the head of her army (which martial virtue seems to have aided in the conversion of some of the Muslim hill-tribes of the region to Holy Orthodoxy), and was addressed by her people as "King and Judge".
I don't know what to make of this.
British SAS/SBS teams trained the Russian Alpha and Omon special forces teams, in there Anti-terrorist roles, and provided a boost in there morale by helping take down a large part of the Russian Mafia Hierarchy in Moscow.
I myself, have served in Romania, and are being deployed to the Ukraine this coming August. And I also know some US soldiers (serving with the Brit army) that have also served in some old Warsaw pact country's, so don't be to surprised!.

This may have been the case many years ago, but as it is now, the country is run by wahabi extremist scum. And Basaeyev and his ilk make no bones of their quest. You can call it independence, but he calls it an islamic state.
Coincidentally, my son was airlifted from Georgia during their civil war with Russia. Russian soldiers passing through his area left their coats and food for the children in the "orphanage" who had been left to starve in a country bereft of even electricity more than a few hours/day.
So contrast this behavior with that of the chechens, in a time of war. And what you come up with afterward, is scum.
