Restorationists vs Conservatives and Libertarians
Self | 12/23/01 | David Wright

Posted on 12/23/2001 7:32:51 PM PST by dcwusmc

I am a RESTORATIONIST and I thank FReeper CHUCKSTER for the use of the term. I came to this position as a libertarian but others have come to it via conservatism and liberalism. At its essence the Restorationist philosophy holds that the United States live as part of a CONSTITUTIONAL REPUBLIC and that we have strayed FAR from our Constitutional roots. We hold that this situation is untenable to our survival as a nation and that we must restore our Constitution as the SUPREME law of the land. We must go back to our roots or we will DIE as a free nation.

This is NOT an issue of the WOD, though I still oppose it on Constitutional grounds. It is NOT an issue on RKBA though I support it unconditionally on Constitutional grounds. It is an issue of National SURVIVAL.

For those of you who are in favor of the WOD, let's agree that we need to get our Constitution restored FIRST, then we can see if the WOD can ever be Constitutional. First things FIRST, in other words. We must stop politicians and bureaucraps of ALL persuasions from using the Constitution as toilet paper. Hence RESTORATIONIST.

Keep in mind that civility is a virtue. Also keep in mind that this is NOT intended as a WOD thread. I will consider as disruption any replies that involve drugs, either pro or con. I want to hear practical comments on how we can RESTORE the Constitution as the Supreme law of these United States and dismantle the Federal Leviathan!

Interesting thoughts.

In many ways, I'd agree. Altho I refuse to accept any 'label' personally.

Bump.

I join you and will gladly take on the label of "Restorationists" as an acurate description of a majority of my political positions.

I will have to agree with you, I personally do not like "labels" as there usually is implied a certain all encompassing set of ideals...

I am a Republican, however I do think the "Party" shifts to the middle on issues that are absolutely apalling to me..

Yet I proudly wear the Republican label as well..

Go Figure..

David

I very much like the idea of of restorationism. I think our Constitution was/is/and will be the best form of government ever conceived by human minds. In terms of "personal labels," the best I've heard so far was from a friend of mine, who said I was a "neo-traditionalist," which is close as one can get to describing and simplifying my complex philosophy.

It is my opinion that the first thing to be done would be to educate people on the Constitution and what it means. Unfortunately, most people don't care as long as they have their beer and football, malls and credit cards, food on the table, a roof over their heads and money to spend. Those that don't have these things don't care because they are either struggling every day of their lives trying to keep it together or are on a government handout program of some sort. One cannot educate people that have no desire to be educated. Many people that are aware of what has happened to this country do not have the courage to stand and fight for fear of losing the things they have worked so hard to obtain. We do not have many people today with the courage of the Founding Fathers who are willing to risk life, property, etc. to make things right.

TexanaRED,

Don't give up yet.. FREEPERS are quickly becoming a force to be reckoned with, and I believe will be the grassroots organization for ALL future "conservative" leaders..

I am looking far beyond party labels, as all three major parties seem to have agendas that do NOT square with the Constitution and when you add in some of the minor players, you get more of the same. Both (D)s and (R)s have, on the national level, a seriously deep disregard for the Constitution and, as some are wont to point out, the Libertarian Party has some issues that may not jibe with it, we are not left with much.

The "power parties" seem to take turns seeing how much of it they can shred this week, with the cheerleaders for each hollering down violations committed by the OTHER side but deflecting criticism, sometimes with real NASTY language, when THEIR guy does the same. Go figure! I wear NO party label any more. I started out life as a (R) but changed to (LP) in the mid 70s and now choose no PARTY. As far as I'm concerned, the party's over, the Constitution is in tatters and it's time to RESTORE it.

Good post. Like so many others have said, I run from labels, but if I had to take one this might be it.

At the same time, it's hard to restore something that doesn't look at all like what it used to be. It's something like trying a facelift on a dead person.
