Here I am foolishly thinking for all these years that God wrote the scriptures. Either Jesus was who He said He was or He wasn't, if he wasn't then what does it matter? How about taking Him at His Word.
I'll read further.
You think the almost complete destruction of the city of Jerusalem and the Second Temple is lacking in scope and finality?
Jerusalem was rebuilt, but not by Jews; by Roman pagans, Byzantine Christians, and Turkish Muslims.
The Temple has not been rebuilt in almost 2000 years.
Sounds like finality to me.

Yes!
The fields are white for harvest!
Exactly!
Thank you. More need to learn this
Or not
And why did he tell us to watch for it?
It doesn’t match up with what’s coming.
Jesus did not tell us to watch for the Last Days.
He told His "generation" to watch for the destruction of Jerusalem, which was to occur within the lifetime of His listeners.
Matthew 24:34
Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened.
And His followers heeded His warning and fled Jerusalem, escaping to Pella.
Yes, the Olivet Discourse is hard to understand, because it contains prophecies for both the immediate and distant future, some of it told via symbolism and allegories.
Too many people spend too much time trying to prove everything in the first chapter of Genesis.
Too many people spend too much time trying to prove everything in the book of Revelation.
Here's a little something fun:
The first letter of the Torah is the letter bet (בית) -- the first letter of Bereshith, "in the beginning".
The last letter of Revelation is the letter nu (νῦ) of "Amen."
Of course, one letter is Hebrew and the other Greek. Can't combine them to make a word out of them like that, but as with math, convert to "like terms" and,
The letter nu in Hebrew is spelled "נו".
Now to add them together:
בית + נו = ביתבו
beitenu
"our home"
The first letter of the Torah + the last letter of Revelation.
The merge of the spelling of those letters is "תֵנ", "ten!":
It is what is between those they should be reading and comprehending.
As for the sums of the first and last [words], there's no conversion required. Bereshith [בְּרֵאשִׁית] = 913, and Amen [Ἀμήν] = 99
Therefore, "In the beginning, Amen" adds up to 1012, the same as the beginning of Isa 9:1:
"The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light"
הָעָם הַהֹלְכִים בַּחֹשֶׁךְ רָאוּ אוֹר גָּדוֹל
Good grief.
Sounds like more Counter Reformation Preterist gibberish. Every Reformer knew, FROM THE BIBLE, that the 1st beast of Revelation was the Papacy. Same for Daniel’s Little Horn, and Paul’s Man of Sin and Son of Perdition. Same for ANYONE during that time that studied the bible, such as Sir Isaac Newton.
“may be Flawed.”
That says it all. You could also say this whole article may be bullshit.
Are we to take it he believes the Second Coming and all of the OT/NT prophecies have been fulfilled?
Perhaps he adheres to a "second, Second Coming" as some have tried to advance on these forums.
So the modern scholars know more than Ireneus who was around back then.
Ireneus knew Polycarp, who actually knew John. But never mind.
Got it.
Bkmk
You beat me to posting that I don’t see the difference between Monsignor Pope’s writing here and your run of the mill preterist. I would like to hear what the Monsignor would say about that.
