“ centuries of utter stability “

Reminds me of this:

“Why did the chicken cross …?”

We no longer do, and he did not.

We’re suffering through an unrecognized interregnum.

We need to square this problem away while Bergoglio yet lives, so he’ll have time to repent and revert. And so that the next pope will arrive on the loggia free of any misapprehensions, either of the Ratzingerian (about how to resign, or whether the papacy can be bifurcated or trifurcated), or the Bergolian (whether the mundane Bishopric of Rome can legitimately be shorn of the supernatural Vicarship of Christ), variety.

If Benedict XVI had remained as pope until his death, Bergoglio would have been ineligible to vote in the conclave which follows because of his age.

Unfortunately a large percentage, probably a majority, of the cardinals voting in the next conclave will be men appointed by Bergoglio.

Be nice if Holy Mother Church would come out of its fog before the next conclave and, at a minimum, declare Bergolian-appointed Cardinals ineligible to vote for the next pope.

Pope: ‘I’m not considering resigning but would be ‘bishop emeritus of Rome’

I wonder if he's ever, instead, considered the Last Four Things:

Death, Judgement, Heaven and Hell.

That’s a good explanation. My question is, do we no longer have a true Vicar of Christ once Benedict died?

Moving 'Vicar of Christ' title in Vatican yearbook is ‘theological barbarism’, says cardinal

Pope drops traditional titles, including ‘Vicar of Christ’

Does the above answer your question?

Humans may pick the next pope, with inspiration from the Holy Spirit, or not, depending on their free will.

But God makes a man pope.

Further to Ratzinger’s early fantasies regarding the papacy being potentially fulfilled by two men, or even three (”demytholigizing” the papacy, as has been mused), a reigning pope thinking about resigning the papacy should keep in mind that doing so is a solemn act, not to be taken lightly, or done in any which way, depending on a whim, or pursuant to the pope’s personal quirks, or unique thoughts regarding the nature of the office.

A purportedly resigning pope cannot avoid coming face-to-face, so to speak, as well as hat-in-hand, with God the Father who made him pope.

Considered in this light, do Benedict XVI’s “resignation” shenanigans not appear sophomoric, shameless, impious? In addition to foolishly not actually accomplishing the resignation of the office he felt he couldn’t shed fast enough.

Bishop Emeritus— what an absolute Leftis A@@. Emeritus- so he can continue to bleed the coffers for himself and his queer jesuit cabal of cardinal buggers. Get out and get lost. But before you go a full audit of the Vatican Bank is in order.

He acts as if he’s bloody Sean Connery threatening to resign the James Bond franchise.

As if there are millions of acolytes hanging on his every word.

Pope Benedict XVI resigned. He was the first pope to resign since Gregory XII in 1415.

Frankie the Fake doesn’t need to resign. He’s not the Pope anyway.
