Midian

For each thing that exists in time and space, says the ancient Book of Formation, there is a place within the human soul.

The seven nations that occupied Canaan exist within the human soul. They are the seven raw emotional modalities that every human being must conquer and transform—such as selfishness, anger, impatience and jealousy.

But before entering Canaan, the Israelites first had to battle with Midian.

Midian is the place in the human soul where there is no room for another. It is not rational, nor can it be reasoned with.

The holy Zohar connects Midian to the word “madon”—a quarrel. Midian is the womb of all quarrels, disputes, divisiveness and intolerance—the diametric opposite of the realm of holiness where all is oneness and harmony.

Midian sits at the core-essence of every maladaptive human quality. So that, once it is conquered, all the rest of a person’s character is opened to transformation.

But how can an unbounded irrationality be conquered?

The master Kabbalist, the Ari, taught that there is a holy Midian as well. It is the place in the human soul of unconditional love, love that has no reason other than it is divine to love one another.

With unconditional love, irrational hatred is conquered and transformed.

When human beings will treat one another with love, and respect their differences of opinion, all other ills will surrender before us.

From Chabad's Daily Dose of Wisdom. Every day is good. Some are awesome. From my perspective.

Thanks.

I love these types of articles because they invite the reader to plumb the depths of meaning.

In this one, Midian is described as a spiritual place/condition: very low (place of strife), or very high (above the fray).

Reminds me of the conceptual space diagrammed and described here, with the link to its opposite which is actually its"counterpart":

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nadir

Many moons ago, I happened across that page and immediately noticed the etymological information because... Joseph. Joseph was the "nazir" ---the one separated from his brothers.

And here we are in the same place [of strife].

Since the concept of being below is itself somewhat vague, scientists define the nadir in more rigorous terms. Specifically, in astronomy, geophysics and related sciences (e.g., meteorology), the nadir at a given point is the local vertical direction pointing in the direction of the force of gravity at that location. The direction opposite of the nadir is the zenith.

Here's the wikionary page for the Arabic word.

Bible-oriented wordniks would notice that here is a place where z's swap with d's. nazir/nadir.

(gold, for example: Hebrew zahab; Aramaic dahab)

Is it time for the eye rolls yet? Because I'm just some unknown of no background. Even my own name is an enigma.

If I were Habakkuk, nobody would know and it wouldn't matter.

Back to Midian because it all connects:

It's a word deriving from din*, from judgment:

The holy Zohar connects Midian to the word “madon”—a quarrel. Midian is the womb of all quarrels, disputes, divisiveness and intolerance—the diametric opposite of the realm of holiness where all is oneness and harmony.

Or rather, the counterpart.

Diagram showing the relationship between the zenith,
the nadir, and different types of horizon.
Note that the zenith is opposite the nadir.

Zen. From the Sanskrit root dhyai contemplate, meditate, think of.

It's a profound meditation, a state of rest,

"an approach to an activity, skill, or subject that emphasizes simplicity and intuition rather than conventional thinking or fixation on goals."

As such, by applying a reverse-Babel on the languages we can plainly observe that zen is like zenith, which is:

From Middle English cenyth, from Medieval Latin cenit, from Arabic سَمْت‎ (samt, “direction, path”), from the fuller form سَمْت اَلرَّأْس‎ (samt ar-raʾs, “direction of the head”).

https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/zenith

Follow the way and it'll take to an alley (a narrow way) -- Latin semita, from which the Hebrew word for alley (simta, סמטה) derives.

antonym: via

That's an important link because look at that word play going on with the meaning of semita in Italian.

There I go again, rambling off on my own. People hate that because it's an approach to an activity, skill, or subject that emphasizes simplicity and intuition rather than conventional thinking or fixation on goals.

Dreamers do what dreamers do, just go on ahead, above the fray, with nothing but their dreams, the visions in their heads to contemplate. Here's a famous dreamer:

Gen 45

7. And God sent me before you to preserve you a posterity in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance:
8. So now it was not you who sent me here, but God; and he has made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his house, and a ruler throughout all the land of Egypt:

Purim is famously called the "flipped over story" based on the phrase "venahafoch hu" in Esther 9:1, because everything turned to the contrary for Haman. For Haman, it all "went south", so to speak.

Another jewel from Chabad:

There is a place—the “fiftieth gate,” they call it—so high that all things are equally nothing from there. There is no good, no evil, nothing can be added or taken away, the righteous are dust, the wicked are dust, nothing is of consequence, all is but dust.

Drunk with the joy of Purim, a Jew travels higher and higher until he reaches that place. And there he proclaims that the oppressed have been saved; the wicked overthrown; and light, joy, happiness and peace rule throughout the universe.

“As for this high place,” he declares, “I am not impressed. It too was created for the purpose of our joy below!”

Its secret exposed, the fiftieth gate itself is redeemed.

But how can an unbounded irrationality be conquered?

The master Kabbalist, the Ari, taught that there is a holy Midian as well. It is the place in the human soul of unconditional love, love that has no reason other than it is divine to love one another.

The Messiah goes to work there every day. It's the name of his business.

On the one hand, he's nowhere near Mars. It's a place named after the god of war.

On the other hand, he's right there, having been born there from perseverance..

On the other hand, he's right here back on earth, his business being but a stone's throw away from Mars. A short walk, anyway.

All of the above: it's the same as what Bilaam saw. It's way more literal than people may suspect, because the parable is the literal meaning:

Num 23

8. How shall I curse, he whom God has not cursed? or how shall I defy, he whom the Lord has not defied:
9. For from the top of the rocks I see him, and from the hills I behold him; lo, the people shall live alone, and shall not be reckoned among the nations:
10. Who can count the dust of Jacob, and the number of the fourth part of Israel? Let me die the death of the righteous, and let my last end be like his:
11. And Balak said to Balaam, What have you done to me? I took you to curse my enemies, and, behold, you have blessed them:

This stuef could be pounded into stone with photo documentation and date stamps, and people still wouldn't believe their eyes!

Joseph warned his family that there were yet five years of the famine. Is there a place in the text where the end is documented? Serious question, because seemingly the end of the famine is unaccounted for.

Be that as it may,

Who doesn't remember the intro to the original Star Trek, a series modeled after the Wagon Train which traveled from St. Joseph to Sacramento (the name origins/context are easy enough to track down):

Where or when does it ever end?! Never ending.

Star Trek has been a cult phenomenon for decades.[4] Fans of the franchise are called "Trekkies" or "Trekkers". The franchise spans a wide range of spin-offs including games, figurines, novels, toys, and comics. From 1998 to 2008, there was a Star Trek–themed attraction in Las Vegas. At least two museum exhibits of props travel the world. The constructed language Klingon was created for the franchise.

Midian sits at the core-essence of every maladaptive human quality. So that, once it is conquered, all the rest of a person’s character is opened to transformation.

Could go a long way in expaining why Joseph told his brothers not to be grieved that *they* sold him into Egypt, when the account of the sale IDs the Midianites.

They were the ones who "drew and lifted up Joseph out of the pit."

If they knew what they were doing, they wouldn't have done that. Good thing nobody knows which end is up, heh.

How many collective years of study has gone into the name Moses, for example. It's not even a Hebrew name.

But wait just a minute, if anyone has the most Hebrew of names, Moses is right up there!

Exodus 2:10 And the child grew, and she brought him unto Pharaoh's daughter, and he became her son. And she called his name Moses: and she said, Because I drew him out of the water.

She fished him out of the water. And Moses, as the entire world knows, is

Ya give Ezekiel an inch, he (or she?) will write you a mile.

Great analogy, because a mile is 66 chains is 22 yards, and a chain is 100 links.

Hu is he and he is she.

I mean come on, where does it ever stop? :)

It doesn't, which is where the hidden Esther (the doe of the dawn) appears, where the end (evening) connects with the beginning (morning). Venus even has her own star that is a myrtle flower, thereby "spelling" her Jewish name every 8 years. Great animation at the link:

https://earthsky.org/astronomy-essentials/five-petals-of-venus/

Mars and Venus get together on the 13th. 0708 UTC

Mordecai and Esther.

It's been a while since I posted this info, but it's good timing today:

The Torah is 304,805 letters and the end overlaps with the beginning on Simchat Torah. The parsha numbered 54 is followed by the 1 -->

541 = "Israel"

304,805 isn't a nice round number, but last 5 letters is the name "Israel". So in the spirit of the colorful paper chains,

One link for a one year reading cycle, and 100 links is a chain:

Each link overlaps itself a little in order to be secured together. I know that's obvious. I'm just pointing it out because of the parallels in doing the same with the Torah. The beginning ("Bereshith") overlapping the end ("Israel") sets up like this:

בירשארשאילת

A few things happen:

1. Israel becomes "hidden" in the beginning.
2. The apparent number of letters of the Torah reduces to 304,800.
3. The word "ayelet" [=emet] appears at the end. While it's the "construct" state of ayelah, meaning it's not spelled that way when on its own, it's the form that is correct for the phrase, Ayelet haShachar, "Doe of the Dawn". Considering the location (at the beginning), it's not just any doe, but *the* doe of the dawn, the hidden Esther at the end of the beginning.

And on that "note" (what's Esther doing in there at the very beginning?!)...

304,800 = 127 x 2400, thereby rolling Esther, the medina, and midnight (Midnight military time explained) into the simple analogy involving a paper chain.

Ya give Ezekiel an inch, he (or she?) will write you a mile.

See how you inspire? Because 127 is a nice neat conversion number between metric units and inches:

Standards for the exact length of an inch have varied in the past, but since the adoption of the international yard during the 1950s and 1960s it has been based on the metric system and defined as exactly 25.4 mm.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inch

Nice and neat when involving 50, because 50 = 127:

50 in. = 127 cm

The water is deep.

The 50th state [of Aloha] is Hawaii, famous for Pearl Harbor: 12/7

At the end, America was the superpower who saved the world with two big bangs and flashes of intense light.

Famous. Written by Irving Berlin, who was born "Israel".

Also in that "year", in Nonnberg Abbey, the Reverend Mother was singing"Climb Every Mountain".

It gets deeper, and higher at the very end:

Atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki

1.2. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep [= 2177]; And a wind from God moved upon the face of the waters:

Gene Autry - Back in the Saddle Again

It has therefore been suggested that the Talmud’s story about Rabbi Akiva’s wife’s golden city might have had an additional symbolic implication: in a profound way, this steadfast lady was, after all, a paradigmatic patroness of Jewish education, sacrificing her own comfort and happiness to put her husband through school. In that capacity, her grateful husband was honouring her with the same kind of diadem that would have been awarded to a wealthy donor to an academic institution.

Although most of us would probably have preferred to see some of that generosity being invested in the lady’s own education, it does nonetheless appear appropriate that the glow of Jerusalem’s gold should be associated with the selfless promotion of Jewish learning.

Funny because exactly as I pasted in that excerpt, "random" verses flew by in the background music off of youtube:

Heaven bless them
They will look up to me
