Pushing the fear button twice, Francis said during his Sunday visit in Bari, Italy, that "it frightens me when I hear speeches of some populist political leaders as they seem like the kind of speeches that sowed fear and then hatred in the 1930s.”
He did not give any examples but went on pressing the fear button a third time, "Fear is leading to a sense that we need to defend ourselves against what is depicted in demagogic terms as an invasion.”
Francis simplistically calls the clash of civilisations “rhetoric” which allegedly serve to justify "violence" and to "nurture hatred." Again no examples were given.

The ‘scariest’ populism is the type of populism that led to the Bolsheviks, and that leads to ‘class’ hatred. We are all unique and separate individuals, and it seems that this is what God intended. Mother Teresa said that there are plenty of people in the West who are as impoverished as those in the third world - but theirs is an impoverishment of the spirit. The point is that even the richest amongst us is impoverished in one way or another, and it is a lifelong struggle for each of us to improve who we are, love others, and find a way to be more like, and closer to, God.
That said, the Commandments that were given to Moses include the Commandment - “Though shall not covet ..”
Socialism/Communism is predicated on coveting and hating. There is nothing ‘holy’ or spiritual about that.
The teaching of Christ expanded beyond what that Commandment stated, and expressed the other side of this - that we should be charitable and giving. Thus coveting, and selfishness are both unacceptable and spiritually wrong.
The people of the world who have been blessed with abundance of one sort or another have a spiritual duty to be charitable to those who were not blessed with such abundance. However, those who have less are not justified in coveting what others have, or hating them for what they have.
Ultimately it’s about the choices we make as free-will beings. God does not coerce us. Neither should the Church try to coerce others, or support governments that will. The Church should be like Christ in being the lonely voice in the wilderness - calling to the hearts of people to make their own individual choices of love, compassion, and charity.
This guy is not the Pope.
I don't know who he is, nor shall I postulate on it, but I know he ain't the Pope.
I am no longer a Catholic, so I don't need nor want any part of him, but some of you good Catholics need to work toward getting rid of this stain on Catholicism.

Has this despicable human not heard the outcries from the precious few Holocaust survivors who are still with us? They are OUTRAGED that the left is cheapening their experiences. How effin DARE they trivialize what these survivors went through? Those were horrors that, by God’s Grace, you and I can’t even imagine.
