Mexican cardinal says abuse victims should think about skeletons in their own closets

Swimming against the tide of promises to crack down on abuse and cover-up led by Pope Francis, a newly created Mexican cardinal said that some accusers should be “ashamed” to point their finger at clerics because many of them have skeletons in their own closets.

The victims of pedophilia who “accuse men of the Church should [be careful] because they have long tails that are easily stepped on,” said Cardinal Sergio Obeso Rivera.

The cardinal, emeritus Archbishop of Xalapa, in Veracruz, Mexico, spoke to journalists before a celebration he led in his former diocese.

I am so glad I left the heretic church 35 years ago.

There is no word to describe the revulsion these slime exude.

That’s like telling a murder victim it’s their own fault for being in front of a gun when it was fired.

Trying to think of a way to spin this where it makes sense. But I can’t.

This is shockingly stupid. The correct answer is to clean house completely. All clergy who have abused children should at the very least be permanently put in positions where they can never access children again. No exceptions. All those who have covered up, condoned abuse, or intimidated victims should be removed from positions of authority. Most abusers and their protectors should be excommunicated. Personally, I’d like to see the predators put on trial for any offenses that have not reached the statute of limitations.

The Church cannot fix the crimes in its past, but it has a moral responsibility to put the fear of God into those who might consider committing similar crimes in the future.

The Church is conflicted.

Even the Pope says “who are we to judge?” regarding what was once very clearly known to be sexual sin and perversion. Homosexuals, adulterers and sexual deviants are all welcomed, and the Church is deathly afraid to stand against modern society.

But its clear that this same phenomenon is destroying the Church from the inside.

You can’t have it both ways.

Jail would be a good place to put these perverts who molest children. Simply sequestering them is not nearly enough.

Same goes for the leaders who participated in the criminal conspiracy to cover up the crimes and abuse.

I am afraid that this institution is just organized crime. It is time for outside investigation.

It doesn’t matter what skeletons they have in their closet (kids?) typical how they make out the perpetrator of these assaults are now the victims because maybe their victims are more culpable. “It’s your fault we did this to you”

These clowns cannot help themselves. What a bunch of arrogant ass-clowns.

People in high positions nearly always seek to isolate themselves in a fantasy bubble of power, as a result they are cut off from reality and begin to believe their thought-world is the real world. They occasionally make the mistake of thinking the imaginary people in their imaginary world will act the way they imagine they will act just because they imagine it.

This goof's pronouncement is really not that different from Andrew Cuomo's "America was never that great" comment. He's surrounded by toadies who give him positive feedback on what he's thinking, and he forgets that reality is still there, outside his little bubble.

If anyone else was saying what he said, I’d wager it would be considered a threat of some sort. Imagine the Catholic Church threatening their people...talk about sexual abuse done by us and we just may start talking about what is said in the Confessional.... it doesn’t have to be anything illegal to be said out of the Confessional to destroy anyone...just something immoral being confessed. Most Catholics don’t recall that confessions were originally done out in public within the congregation and then the royalty, landed gentry and so forth decided they didn’t want their sins aired in public and hence the private Confessions were done for them and ultimately the Confessional booths were introduced. I was raised Catholic and know of some of the less known history.

“All clergy who have abused children should at the very least be permanently put in positions where they can never access children again.”

Like a grave? Seriously, it’s a mental disorder that cannot be shut off by giving them a lesser job. They will find a way to continue with their perversion.

Put them on trial and lock them up? Even if jailed they’d probably be abusing the younger inmates. But there is a flip side here, if many convicts dislike child molesters to the point of killing them while in prison, then prison would be the answer.

Had a talk with a former pastor on Sunday. He wants the destruction of what he calls the clerical culture. We each thought it might be time for a Second Reformation.
