Peter preached to God’s people ...ie the Jews

Paul preached to the rest of us

“The only other questionable choice, from a historical point of view, is the almost total exclusion of Peter”

Peter was a relatively minor character in the early church, Paul was pretty much calling all the shots - including having to set Peter straight on at least one notable occasion in Antioch(Galatians 2:11–14).

It's a good film, but not as good as Risen, which I thought was an excellent film.

I was expecting more of a "Life story of Paul" which this film is not. It is, however, a compelling portrayal of people attempting to live faithful lives under truly horrible circumstances.

Jim Caviezel said he chose to do this movie because of the script. I’m expecting to see a well crafted film with good production values.

At a time of profound persecution in Rome, the leader of the nascent Christian community sits in prison, falsely accused by Nero of burning down half of the city. His friend and biographer Luke arrives to see what he can do for Paul and for the Christians hiding for their lives in the city.

I hope it doesn't begin with this as a premise for why Paul is in a Roman prison!

I've been looking forward to seeing this, I've seen several ads for it on You Tube.

Good to see James Faulkner in a starring role. I've seen him for years in television parts, often heavies. I think I most remember him from Zulu Dawn from 1979, which he also produced. Faulkner played Lt. Melvill, who along with Lt. Coghill attempts to save the Queen's Colours at the end of the battle.

The only other questionable choice, from a historical point of view, is the almost total exclusion of Peter, who was in Rome at the same time and was the head of the church. It’s an understandable plot device that serves the need to focus attention on Luke and Paul, but audiences will see it as a plot hole [see update below rating]. Peter only gets mentioned once in an affectionate remembrance between Luke and Paul.

What history? History doesn't place Peter in Rome and neither does scripture. Tradition places Peter in Rome.

Professionally done all the way. Even secular critics admit that. The only complaint is that the plot wasn’t tight. Well duh, it’s not a mystery novel. Great character development and script, and even some humorous dialog. “To Live is Christ, to Die is Gain. That’s brilliant, write that down!”

Except it's not an issue because there is no record of Peter being in Rome anywhere in Scripture.

I'm looking forward to seeing it.

Paul is thought to have been executed in the summer of AD 67. Peter may have been executed as early as AD 64. Of course, we don't know the exact dates in either case.

Saw it yesterday and was disappointed. More about a fictional account of Christians in Rome than Paul’s life. I personally didn’t like it.

I saw it and really enjoyed it. We walked out thinking it was a 45 minute movie but it was almost 2 hours.

After reading this review yesterday I went and saw it with my wife after getting off work yesterday. First time I have been to a movie theater in months, and the first time on a weeknight in perhaps decades.

Great flick, go see it.
