Card. Maradiaga: Don't pay too much attention to the Pope's critics. Jesus also faced opponents
March 13 marks five years since Pope Francis was elected. To give some perspective on his pontificate, we spoke with one of his closest collaborators, Honduran Cardinal Oscar Andres Rodriguez Maradiaga.
CARD. ÓSCAR ANDRÉS RODRÍGUEZ MARADIAGA
Archbishop of Tegucigalpa (Honduras)
This pontificate has been full of positive experiences. It has offered so much. Not a day goes by without some type of spiritual lesson. The pope's daily homilies at Casa Santa Marta are a perfect example of this. They lay out a spiritual foundation that's both welcomed and appreciated.
Cardinal Maradiaga was named bishop nearly 40 years ago. He recognizes that every pontificate is unique. What stands out about Pope Francis, he says, is his ability to communicate with people from all walks of life.

If you think about it, there are inspirational documents from every pontificate, but sometimes they are forgotten in bookstores or libraries. This pontificate is just as solid and profound, but it gets its message across in today's language. It's a message that can be immediately applied to everyday life.
The pope's spiritual life plays a big role in this. He prays for two hours before celebrating Mass. In the afternoon, he dedicates one hour to Eucharistic Adoration. It's a daily routine that gives the pope inner strength, even when it comes to facing criticisms.

I wouldn't worry too much about critics. Our Lord Jesus faced the harshest opposition. He said it quite clearly: 'You will be persecuted and attacked, but do not worry. I will stand with you till the end of time.' These are not random words. They were said by God's Son.
In the last five years, Pope Francis has led by example. His reforms aren't focused so much on structures, but on people. Even though Pope Francis is the reformer, Cardinal Maradiaga says the works are above all, led by the Holy Spirit.

“Drunk with the blood of Saints”
You can’t get more arrogant and presumptuous than to compare anyone - even a Pope - to the Lord. Given that this guy is a mouth piece for the Political Pope, this statement is born of the hubris of Francis. Pride cometh before the Fall.
I am Catholic and I do not agree with many things Pope Francis says and I think he is deserving of much of the criticism he receives, however, I don’t think your conclusion is accurate theologically. Christ did clearly state that His followers would be persecuted because of their devotions to His teaching, and that is not the same thing as equating oneself with God.
Amen and it SECOND IT.
Correction: Amen and SECOND IT.
Hes not talking about Christs followers, hes talking about Francis...
Francis is also a follower of Christ. Does he sin? Yes. Does he gets things wrong? Yes. Francis has never claimed to be without sin or equal to God.
This is disgusting. BTW, Maradiaga is under investigation for having received huge and unaccounted for payments (the equivalent $35,000 PER MONTH for a no-show job at the university) that he claims to have given to the diocese but which appear nowhere in diocesan or charitable agency accounting; having convinced a wealthy widow to invest all of her funds with a Muslim friend who was a fund manager in Europe who was running a Ponzi scheme and disappeared with all her money; for having tastefully overlooked outrageous (and costly) gay activity on the part of an auxiliary bishop who seems to have spent most of his time pressuring seminarians to sleep with him or appearing in their beds at night...and he also wrote the Aparecida document so beloved of Francis, for which the then Cardinal Bergoglio claimed authorship, and which is nothing but stupid ravings about the poor, carried over by Bergoglio and Maradiaga - cynically - to this day.
Maradiaga is receiving treatment for prostate cancer - at a hospital in Houston. Early stage prostate cancer isnt that serious and can be treated anywhere, but speculation is that he wants to be far away from Honduras when some of the legal charges against him hit the fan.
Pessimistic Pope Francis compares his popularity to Jesus and says 'look how that turned out'
Bergoglio is changing the Lord's Prayer; you know, the one Jesus Christ Himself gave us. And how does Bergolio know the Holy Trinity argues amongst themselves behind closed doors?
Francis is first and primarily a socialist-communist who is supporting the homosexual and pro-abortion, anti-law democrat-socialists in America and abroad.
He is supporting Muslims against ANY Christian of ANY faith.
I have seen nothing to convince me he is a catholic.
So did satan have his critics. It is up to each individual to learn discernment and not follow blindly.
That would have been a better character for Maradiaga to compare Bergolio to.
This pope is not Jesus, and he’s not even a good successor to Peter.
In Matthew 5:17 Jesus said: “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.”
It seems to me that Pope Francis is working at abolishing the basic laws and teachings of the Bible, prophets, and Jesus.
Liberal queers and pedophiles.
that is the sickest thing I have heard out of a supposedly Christian.
