The percentage of babies born to unmarried mothers dipped below 40 percent for the first time in 9 years in 2016, dropping to 39.8 percent, according to the final birth-data report for that year published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
However, there were 1,569,796 babies born to unmarried mothers in the United States during that year, according to the report. That made 2016 the 29th straight year (1988-2016) that more than a million babies were born in the United States to unmarried mothers.
Over the past 30 years on record (1987-2016), according to CDC data, there have been 120,777,366 babies born in the United States and 42,015,749 of those babies—or 34.78 percent—were born to unmarried mothers.

It was when shame was removed from the public square.
Once “my baby daddy” became common parlance with no shame associated with it, moral society was lost.
The same is true for welfare.
What sickens me the most about this phrase isn't so much the issue of single motherhood itself, as the fact that inner city ghetto slang and the ghetto mindset has worked its way into mainstream society. You now hear 20-somethings from middle class background talking about "my b*tches" and "my baby daddy" etc.
All women should bring at least 1 child into the world. Marriage should be only a 10 year commitment. Then they should be free to screw around with whomever they wish. The men’s job is to go to work every day and provide. Once those parameters are accepted women can live a full and free life. Don’t you think a lot of it is happening now?
Its very ironic how the “sexual revolution” which claimed to “free” women from the oppressive male patriarchy actually created a huge burden for women and children
42 million babies born to unwed mothers means in most cases, Mom was caring for those children alone. It also meant that more women and children then ever are in poverty. It also meant that women were given the awful choice of having a baby outside of a family structure, or killing that baby.
What happens when human nature is denied, and atheistic, materialistic, nihilistic ways of thinking are substituted for it.
Men already have nearly ZERO responsibility towards women or the children they produce. You can thank the sexual revolution for that.
Men can live in single room occupancy hotels, go to work and do their own thing afterwards. Could be drinking, chasing women or watching sports. It’s the women that are stuck holding the kids. Find a way to provide and protect them. Tribal families are better than the public schools.

It started in the 60’s when the Commies made it “cool” to be anti-establishment.
You can look back to 1913 or even earlier to spot the point where rot entered our republic, but at a minimum we can look back 50 years or so to the sexual revolution, feminism and the so-called Great Society.
Big social experiment in how to engineer a society for dependency on government. It hasn’t done anyone any favors. Some people will say that there were good outcomes — but they will say that stuff only because the government schools have indoctrinated them to believe that welfare, feminism and easy sex are all good things.
We need to actively turn this around. Not easy, but it can be done. In the UK, the time before the Victorian Age was considered a time of loose morals (the Regency). England decided that stuff was bad, and so they decided to push for propriety and middle class values. We can do that too.

Women form the collective and provide mutual help/support. Men are somewhat ancillary, are much less loosely connected, and are often lazy/irresponsible, while women work.

Many single women believe(d) they would get a marriage proposal from sexual activity and resulting pregnancy - which is why they used no contraception etc., Naïve ninnies!!
Future generations are going to have to fix the 20th century stupidity with moral clarity and the Grace of God.
Society has materially greatly prospered, under world peace and massive economic and technological development. Of course, the progressive nanny state contributed nothing to this - and is actually a dead weight on it. People very mistakenly conflate and combine these various social and economic aspects of our present society.
I see it everyday on FB. Multiple times. They all have babies from random baby dads plus a live in boyfriend. They beg for help and many times it’s monetary. Makes me sick.
