PRAY FOR POPE BENEDICT XVI
We may never know why he resigned. I personally believe that the San Gallo Conspirators who did everything they could to prevent him from being elected in the Conclave of 2005, and failed, succeeded in 2013 in threatening the Church with such a financial disaster that Benedict, out of love for the Church and on those countless men and women around the world who depend on the Church for their very sustenance and living, sacrificed himself and resigned the exercise of the power of jurisdiction (governing) that belongs to whoever occupies the Chair of Peter, but not the power of orders. Jorge Maria Bergolio, who was elected to succeed Benedict to the Chair of Peter in 2013 has chosen, rightly or wrongly, to exercise ALL of the powers of the papacy with the resulting chaos that we are now experiencing.
If Archbishop Ganswein was correct in saying in his speech in the Gregorianum that the Church now has a shared papacy, and I believe that he could only have said it if, as the personal secretary of Benedict XVI he knew that Benedict had received a sign from the Lord that what he contemplated doing was acceptable to the Lord, then Jorge Maria Bergolio has usurped powers he was not given.
One has only to look upon this photo of Pope Benedict XVI to see how much he has aged physically since the election of 2013. My heart aches for him. I can only begin to imagine the suffering he has experienced and continues to experience as he asks the Lord over and over again, Did I do the right thing?
Regardless of your own opinion, pray for him! Joseph Ratzinger was/is a great priest, Archbishop, Cardinal, and Pope. Pray for him!
+Rene Henry Gracida
I don’t know a thing about the politics of the Vatican (tho I DO believe church politics is always treacherous, regardless of denomination, and no doubt more so at a center like the Vatican). I always liked and respected Pope Benedict, and neither like nor much respect Francis.
I’ve always had considerable respect for Pope Benedict ... and certainly will pray for him
I think it was pretty likely he was somehow forced out...
he did not really look very sick, anyway
He was forced to resign by Vatican left wing thugs.
I will pray that he will condemn Francis and Vatican II before he dies.
What does this mean?
” I always liked and respected Pope Benedict, and neither like nor much respect Francis.”
I firmly believe Francis is an anti Christ. A very wicked man.
"[Benedict] sacrificed himself and resigned the exercise of the power of jurisdiction (governing) that belongs to whoever occupies the Chair of Peter, but not the power of orders. Jorge Maria Bergolio, who was elected to succeed Benedict to the Chair of Peter in 2013 has chosen, rightly or wrongly, to exercise ALL of the powers of the papacy with the resulting chaos that we are now experiencing."
This hints that we are talking about the "powers of the papacy," specifically, not just the powers of the priesthood.
It sounds like Gracida is saying that Benedict intended to abdicate some of the prerogatives of the papacy, but not all of them. As if the Petrine office could be divided and shared out by two people.
If this is what was intended, I think it possible that that would invalidate Benedict's abdication. I don't see how the papacy itself could be reconfigured on the spot into a two-man office.
From the election of his successor, Pope Francison 13 March 2013there are not then two Popes, but de facto an enlarged ministry with an active and a contemplative member. For this reason, Benedict has not renounced either his name or his white cassock. For this reason, the correct title with which we must refer to him is still Holiness. Furthermore, he has not retired to an isolated monastery, but [has retired] within the Vatican, as if he had simply stepped aside to make space for his Successor, and for a new stage in the history of the Papacy, which he, with that step, has enriched with the centrality of payer and of compassion placed in the Vatican Gardens.
So it is not surprising that some have seen it as revolutionary, or otherwise as entirely consistent with the gospel, while still others see in this way a secularized papacy as never before, and thus more collegial and functional, or even simply more humane and less sacred. And still others are of the opinion that Benedict XVI, with this step, has almost speaking in theological and historical-critical terms demythologized the papacy.
Archbishop Georg Ganswein; May 20, 2016
If Francis were to suddenly die, would Pope Benedict XVI still be the Pope?
Is he not called “emeritus” which means retired?
Good God our Lord, Jesus Christ, give years to Thy servant our pope Benedict XVI, sustain him and restore the blessed papacy that Thou hast established to its glory.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, in the company of saints in heaven, amen.
For this reason, and well aware of the seriousness of this act, with full freedom I declare that I renounce the ministry of Bishop of Rome, Successor of Saint Peter, entrusted to me by the Cardinals on 19 April 2005, in such a way, that as from 28 February 2013, at 20:00 hours, the See of Rome, the See of Saint Peter, will be vacant and a Conclave to elect the new Supreme Pontiff will have to be convoked by those whose competence it is.
If he renounced his office of Bishop of Rome, Sucessor of St Peter, he is now only His Emminence Joseph Cardinal emeritus Ratzinger.
verb: renounce; 3rd person present: renounces; past tense: renounced; past participle: renounced; gerund or present participle: renouncing
formally declare one's abandonment of (a claim, right, or possession).
synonyms: reject, refuse to abide by, repudiate "Hungary renounced the agreement"
So if he truly did renounced his office why does he dress and is addressed as a pope?
