Worship of Distinction

"When He again brings the first-born into the world, He says, 'And let all the angels of God worship Him'" (Heb. 1:6).

Jesus Christ is greater than angels because He is worshiped.

Even though Jesus Christ humbled Himself and was made lower than the angels for a time, angels are still to worship Him. Since angels are to worship Him, then Christ must be greater than them.

Angels have always worshiped Christ, only they worshiped Him as God. It wasn't until His incarnation that angels were commanded to worship Him as God's Son. It is a sin to worship anyone or anything but God—in fact, note how sternly the apostle John was rebuked for worshiping angels (Rev. 19:10; 22:8-9). So the very fact that angels are to worship Christ verifies that Christ is indeed God.

At present, the angels don't fully understand the entire picture of God's redemptive plan. Peter tells us that the prophets didn't understand all that they wrote, "seeking to know what person or time the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating as He predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories to follow" (1 Pet. 1:11). Then he added, "Things into which angels long to look" (v. 12). They are still trying to figure out things they don't understand.

But that won't always be the case. Notice that Hebrews 1:6 says, "When He again brings the first-born into the world" (emphasis added). God already brought Christ into the world once—at the second coming He will bring Him into the world in blazing glory. Then the fullness of the prophecy of Psalm 97:7 quoted in Hebrews 1:6 will come to pass: "Let all the angels of God worship Him."

In His second coming Christ is revealed in full glory as the Son. More than ever we have reason to join the heavenly chorus in declaring, "Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing" (Rev. 5:12).

Suggestion for Prayer

Thank God for His wonderful plan of salvation. Ask Him to make it more real to you every day.

For Further Study

Read Revelation 5:1-11 and note the reactions of the angels to the Lamb of God. What specific event motivated their response?

I love Hebrews, so many truths are tied together and fully realized within. Jesus is magnified! The angels must have marveled at what God did through Him.

Good tidings of great joy which shall be to all people! I love the account of a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and singing “Gloria in excelsis Deo”! That had to be the greatest day in history.

"When He again brings the first-born into the world, He says, 'And let all the angels of God worship Him'" (Heb. 1:6).

Angels have always worshiped Christ, only they worshiped Him as God.

Gen 37

5. And Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it his brothers; and they hated him even more:
6. And he said to them, Hear, I beg you, this dream which I have dreamed:
7. For, behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and, lo, my sheaf arose, and also stood upright; and, behold, your sheaves stood around, and made obeisance [7812] to my sheaf:
8. And his brothers said to him, Shall you indeed reign over us? or shall you indeed have dominion over us? And they hated him even more for his dreams, and for his words:
9. And he dreamed yet another dream, and told it his brothers, and said, Behold, I have again dreamed a dream; and, behold, the sun and the moon and the eleven stars made obeisance [7812] to me:
10. And he told it to his father, and to his brothers; and his father rebuked him, and said to him, What is this dream that you have dreamed? Shall I and your mother and your brothers indeed come to bow down [7812] ourselves to you to the earth:
11. And his brothers envied him; but his father kept the matter in mind:

Hebrews 1:6 And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him.

proskuneo, it's an act of reverence and submission, not evidence of diety.

What passage is the author of "To the Hebrews" quoting in Hebrews 1:6?:

Used for Hebrew [7812] as in the above. The act of bowing to a ruler is assumed to be an act of worship of a deity if that's what people want to see and include in the meaning. The author wants people to see what he wants them to see. Due diligence (discernment) has left the Establishment (the building).

God said how many times to keep, watch, guard, protect, and observe (lishmor, shamar) His commandments, laws, and statutes, but who is actually doing that (paying close attention). Certainly not a whole host of those who profess to be teachers, or students. Dead works in order to feign expert reputations. Sad. That's why so many just keep on laying the same old "deity" cornerstone over and over and over. The jig is up. There's no "there" there, only career bureaucrats shuffling the same stack of papers around. They don't call it red tape for nothing.

The "cutting of red tape" - meaning a reduction of bureaucratic obstacles to action.

President Donald Trump: the political Establishment's worst nightmare.
The Messiah: the religious Establishment's worst nightmare.

19. And they said one to another, Behold, this dreamer comes:
20. Come now therefore, and let us slay him, and throw him into some pit, and we will say, Some evil beast has devoured him; and we shall see what will become of his dreams:

The Messiah is on orders of magnitude greater than man's man-god. Few want a Redeemer - an actual man not a hybrid - who says "You really can do that, and here's how, now go and DO". They'd rather be on permanent disability as hopeless sinners, expecting Jesus to mow their laws for them. That's not very respectful.

The Messiah's followers should be directing *him* to the chaise lounge, setting up an umbrella for shade, serving him lunch and insisting, "We've got this covered, so relax for a few, will ya?" After all, the man works day and night, always making himself available, always willing to serve.
