Reformed Churches Accept Joint Catholic-Lutheran Statement on Justification
Catholic Culture ^ | 7/4/17

The World Communion of Reformed Churches has accepted that Joint Declaration on Justification that was originally signed by the Catholic Church and the World Lutheran Federation in 1999, and later by the World Methodist Council in 2016.

The World Communion of Reformed Churches will formalize its assent to the statement at an ecumenical prayer service to be held in Wittenberg, Germany, on July 5.

The Pontifical Council for Christian Unity welcomed the acceptance of the statement by the Reformed Churches as an “important milestone” in ecumenical affairs. The Vatican body said:

One of the crucial issues of dissent between the Reformers and the authorities of the Catholic Church in the sixteenth century is thus being diffused and overcome, making further growth in spiritual and ecclesial communion between the Protestant and Catholic Churches possible.

I don’t think the PCA is part of this “communion” and the PCUSA is — so, IMHO, this organization is “suspect”.

PCUSA is a very very sad “partner church,” to put it mildly. “ Ecumenicalism” is already viewed with considerable suspicion. This move only reinforces those concerns. There are other Calvinist/ Presbyterian denominations which endeavor to teach and live far more recognizably- Christian lives than PCUSA. Many many believing Christians have fled PCUSA for these and other churches. If there’s to be “ecumenical deals” why not with them? Why with an outfit including PCUSA?

“Among the biggest denominations in the WCRC are the Presbyterian Church of Africa, Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, Presbyterian Church of East Africa, United Church of Canada, Presbyterian Church USA, Reformed Church in Hungary, Reformed Church in Romania, Protestant Church in Indonesia, and Church of Scotland. Its member denominations on the whole could be considered more liberal than the member denominations of the International Conference of Reformed Churches or the World Reformed Fellowship, which are also large ecumenical Reformed organization.”

Apostates, but we have been told that all sola Scriptura Protestant churches agreed on the basics of Christianity?

One of the crucial issues of dissent between the Reformers and the authorities of the Catholic Church in the sixteenth century is thus being diffused and overcome,

And what is that crucial issue?

PCUSA, ECO, and EPC; CRC, UCC, and the Cumberland churches, among a few others.

Generally, the usual socially liberal crowd.

Jesus came to divide

Luk 12:51 Do you think I have come to bring peace to the earth? No, I have come to divide people against each other!

Co 11:18 First, I hear that there are divisions among you when you meet as a church, and to some extent I believe it.
1Co 11:19 But, of course, there must be divisions among you so that you who have God’s approval will be recognized!

God seems to think division and debate is a good thing. This is where the iron sharpening happens. The problem with the RC is that everything is “settled science” thus no debate and truth revealed.................

You understand incorrectly, all denominations are subject to error.

Sola Scriptura is not followed by many liberal churches.
They take man’s preferences over God’s.

The central issue is fairly obvious to anyone who knows anything about the Reformation, which apparently none of the commenters above have the slightest clue. At least you were honest enough to ask.

The LCMS is in no way involved in this. There are some biblically faithful Lutherans left. I wish the rest of the bunch would call themselves something else

Do the Lutherans believe Mary only committed small sins and they spend less time in mythical purgatory than full Catholics in the pews on the other side of the room?

**Apostates, but we have been told that all sola Scriptura Protestant churches agreed on the basics of Christianity?**

Except those who have, as an whole, left the faith.

They are all into universalism, which is not part of the faith, now is it?

The PCUSA has abandoned sola scriptura for the traditions of men.
