Francis Imposes Concelebration For Priests Living in Rome [Catholic Caucus]

Roberto de Mattei writes in Corrispondenza Romana about a secret working paper of the Congregation for the Clergy, which is circulating in Roman Seminaries and Collegios, i.e. houses where priests, who study in Rome live. The paper wants that the young priests stop saying Holy Mass and participate instead in mass-concelebrations.

According to De Mattei, already on April 1st 2017 Pope Francis tried to denigrate the celebration of Mass as "individualism" and recommended concelebration instead, while addressing priests, who study in Rome.

According to De Mattei, the working paper writes in bold that "the concelebrated Mass is to be preferred to the individual celebration". The paper invites the superiors of the Collegios to encourage this by having up to three concelebrations a day.

De Mattei points out, that this new disposition violates Canon 902 of the Code of Canon Law according to which priests "can concelebrate the Eucharist" but "they are completely free to celebrate the Eucharist individually."

How are they supposed to learn to say Mass (and become completely comfortable with it) if they don't say it individually?

The hits keep coming.

A catholic understanding of the mass would encourage as many sacrifices as possible every day. The world needs the grace.

Exactly. It’s not like the Catholic Church is suffering from a surplus of priests.

Parishes are being closed faster than the Blockbusters were.

Am I wrong to suspect this is also about keeping certain priests under the eyes of those who will report any dissent to the Pope?

Many European Catholic Cathedrals have or had side altars, where priests once were simultaneously offering Masses.

I guess Francis will have none of that.

Perhaps. I think it is also meant to limit priests offering the Traditional Latin Mass.

1.  Is con-celebration among priests allowed in the Extraordinary Form?

In the Traditional Latin Mass con-celebration only occurs at the Mass of the Ordination of a Priest and at the Mass of the Ordination of a Bishop. In the Ordination of a Priest according to the 1962 Missal the rubrics establish that the concelebrating priests be only those who are ordained at that Mass. Thus the priests attending the Ordination Mass of Priests do not concelebrate but only the Ordinandi.

The manner of con-celebration at the Mass of the Ordination of a Priest is not identical to the manner of con-celebration in the Ordinary Form. Rather in the Extraordinary Form the concelebrating priest, at his Mass of Ordination, kneels at some distance from the altar. While the Canon of the Mass is normally read in "vox secreta," at an Ordination Mass the Canon Missae is said out loud by the Bishop. While the Ordaining Bishop reads the Canon of the Mass out loud the newly ordained priest(s) simultaneously recite(s) the Canon of the Mass in "vox secreta". Furthermore the newly ordained receive only the Sacred Host. The Ordinandi receive the Sacred Host on the tongue from the Ordaining Bishop while kneeling at the altar. Afterwards the Ordinandi receive a chalice of unconsecrated wine at the credence table as an ablution. The Ordinandi do not receive the Precious Blood.

So can we dare to hope that priests will appeal to Canon Law, particularly 902, to get the College of Cardinals off the couch and intervene to save the good priests and faithful, in Rome and the world?

One can hope, but Bergoglio is known to scoff at canon law, e.g. Holy Communion to adulterers.

That would be my reasoning, too.

Not just in Europe but here in the States as well.

I’ve even seen side altars in old parish churches - now sadly dormant. :-(

The RC hierachy is like the uni-party in Washington. It’s main purpose is to maintain grip on power and resources - not to pursue any noble or moral purpose. The True Church needs a champion to call out Francis and the bloated, corrupt and immoral Vatican hierarchy for what they are. Schism is inevitable. No Catholic who believes in the Creed can stay within a structure that mocks God and his Word. The Vatican has become a viper’s den of homosexual predators, marxists and apostates.
