What The Shack gets right

by Lita Cosner

Published: 7 March 2017 (GMT+10)

It would be easy to write a standard, outraged review of The Shack. They portray God the Father and God the Spirit in human form, as females! They put words in God’s mouth that He never said! They substitute correct doctrine for mushy platitudes that sound like they came from Oprah!

All those things are true, and they’re all problems, and those problems have been very thoroughly laid out elsewhere in reviews of William Paul Young’s best-selling 2008 book of the same title, so go there and read about those issues.1 But we should ask, why did people find The Shack appealing in the first place?

ALSO from the article:

....."What wasn’t in The Shack

The most troubling error in The Shack’s portrayal of God was the omission of the Gospel. The god of The Shack forgives simply because he/she/they love. But the atonement which makes forgiveness possible is never clearly presented. ‘Papa’ says he/she does not have any wrath, but the God of the Bible must judge sin because He is just. It is only through Christ substitutionary sacrifice in which He paid for the sins of all who would believe that God is able to be both just and merciful in His forgiveness of sinners....."

Stick with the Bible. It tells you about the sacrifice God made for your sins, truly the “greatest story ever told.” And it’s a true story.

But we should ask, why did people find The Shack appealing in the first place?

Because people want to believe that they will make it to Heaven, despite their sin. That everything will 'be okay'. They do not want to face the consequence of their rebellion against God and realize that Hell is real.

The Shack is a distraction by the enemy to try to take the focus away from the Real Jesus and Real God.

The only people who read it are those walking on shaky spiritual ground and the unsaved.

A glass of pure water with drops of sewage in it is unfit to drink.

What The Shack get's right - absolutely NOTHING!

It's trash or blasphemy, whichever term you prefer but there is nothing biblical in it.

Read the Book of John (St. John, if you prefer) from start to finish and you'll know everything that any book or movie out of Hollywierd pretends is true!

See the second excerpt I included in post #1.

I am no fan of “the shack”.

I always like when people write things like “God never said that.”

For the first part, God has been around for ever. So, no one on earth can make that statement without being foolish.

For the second part, God is the creator of everything. It is incomprehensible for us to presume to know God’s mind.

And finally, its a movie. Ten minutes from now there will be a new splashy movie to go see.

It’s a story. Drama. Fiction. it can’t be taken literally.

"It is incomprehensible for us to presume to know God’s mind."

We can certainly know those aspects of God's mind which he chooses to reveal to us through scripture.

If that is the entirety of God’s mind, then we have a pretty tightlipped God.

“...it’s a movie...”

The sheeple think it’s real/true.

Sad but true.

Is the “that” you’re talking about the Bible?

The Word is eternal.

No one can EVER plumb the depths of God’s mind in His Word.

God’s Word and the study of it is -— infinite.

Who said it was the “entirety of God’s mind”? It’s merely all we need to know about him.

Took the family on Sunday. It was extremely depressing movie. However, the ending did find that the guy whose daughter was murdered forgave the killer.....however, it was emphasized that it would not happen right away that it is a long journey. I know many families who have forgiven a killer....must be very difficult. I am surprised the bashing of this movie. This is why Hollywood won’t do them because they get criticized for everything. Was the movie perfect? No. But no movie is perfect. I mean good grief Hawksaw Ridge was the dumbest movie on Earth. Why didn’t the Japanese cut down that rope ladder? I mean that was pretty stupid on their part but you know Hollywood.....

You are in deep trouble. You do know that John was written 300 years after Jesus was around. You think that is a perfect book??????? People can’t remember what they did 20 minutes ago and you think people remembered from whisper down the alley???????? Good grief I will pray for your soul because Hell is probably a result.

What do you find wrong with John’s gospel?

“It’s a story. Drama. Fiction. it can’t be taken literally.”

For some new Christian or maybe someone who has not found Jesus yet as their savior, it can do great harm by putting false ideas in their heads, which later own may prove damning!
