Christianity should have an influence in Europe, but it must not become a colonial enterprise, Pope Francis said in an interview with the French daily La Croix.
In his latest published interview the Pontiff spoke about migration, Islamic terrorism, and clericalism, as well as the relationship between Christianity and Europeanepsecially Frenchsociety.
Asked about the Christian roots of European civilization, the Pope replied:
We need to speak of roots in the plural because there are so many. In this sense, when I hear talk of the Christian roots of Europe, I sometimes dread the tone, which can seem triumphalist or even vengeful.
However, the Holy Father said that Christianity does have an important role in Europe. Europe has Christian roots and it is Christianitys responsibility to water those roots, he said. He remarked that St. John Paul II had discussed the Christian role in Europe in a tranquil manner.
Questioned about Europes capacity for accepting immigrants, the Pope said: That is a fair and responsible question because one cannot open the gates wide unreasonably. However, he went on to say that one must ask why so many immigrants are flooding into Europe today. He argued that Western corporate interests are largely responsible:
If there are wars, it is because there exist arms manufacturers which can be justified for defensive purposes and above all arms traffickers. If there is so much unemployment, it is because of a lack of investment capable of providing employment, of which Africa has such a great need.

A complete communist. Not fit to be pope.
I am not a Catholic, but HOW did this guy become the pope!!??
It isn’t colonialism when you decline subsidize foreign countries.
And it isn’t colonialism to protect your own borders.
“Western corporate interests” are responsible for Muslim hordes invading the west? Yeah, that’s right from the Bible.
Yes. It is the mission of European Christians to be the slaves, er.....servants, of all those Third world migrants flooding in.
I am not a Catholic, but HOW did this guy become the pope!!??
Hmmm. If Muslims do it, it’s not “colonialism”?!
If the Muslims do it, it's called conquest
"It is the will of Allah (Satan)" - Alahu Snackbar !
I’m a Catholic and I don’t know. But according to some cryptic indications from Benedict XVI, before he stepped down for reasons not entirely known, there were factions and infighting in the Vatican between groups of different ideologies. Sounds like the work of the devil.
There is a difference between 'service' and "enslavement"
This guy obviously doesn't know the difference !
It's called a Muslim Heijra- a flooding of Muslims into a Kafir area so the Muslims can ultimately take over.
Muhammad did this when he sent his Muslim companions from Mecca 200 miles north to Medina and ultimately joined them and took over Medina with the sword-and the rest is History.
No fundamental Muslim should ever adapt into a Kafir society.
Muslims have to bide their time even if it takes centuries to get strong enough to overthrow the host Kafir country. - Tom
Catholics, can you do something to reel in your Little Mussolini? He's seriously embarrassing you.
Has anyone asked Francis if he thinks the West should insist on reciprocity? If Christian countries are going to accept mass Muslim immigration, why doesn’t Francis take the lead in demanding that the Muslim world accept religious pluralism as well?
Unfit for any position of leadership. Especially in the Church. Please pray.
Very bad things can happen when hordes of Mohammedans occupy Christian nations.
Ditto
I love when the non-Catholics are even questioning the validity of this “pope”.
You know. I can’t even relate to the thinking of this Pope. It isn’t even reality. In fact, I can’t read the monthly letter put out by my bishop because it is so full of sophistry . It is just words put together in sentences that come out as slop. Meaningless!
