The fascinating contrast between President Obama’s and Sen. Cruz’s Hanukkah (Chanukah) greetings
The Washington Post's The Volokh Conspiracy ^ | December 6, 2015 | Professor David Bernstein

First part:

President Obama: “Tonight, Jews in America, Israel, and around the world come together to light the first candle of the Festival of Lights. At its heart, Hanukkah is about the struggle for justice in the face of overwhelming obstacles.”

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.): “Today Heidi and I wish the Jewish Community a very Happy Chanukah. On this holiday, we remember the miracle that enabled a freedom-loving people – led by the heroic Maccabees – to defeat the oppressive dictator Antiochus so that they could once again freely worship the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. For the eight days of Chanukah, the Jewish people commemorate their liberation from oppression and the rededication of the Temple in Jerusalem. As the Talmud teaches, God delivered ‘many into the hands of the few, strong into the hands of the weak, and evildoers into the hands of the righteous.'”(continued)

Ever notice how often they compare Ted Cruz to Barack Obama? It's as if they know who will win next year already.

Not everything is about social justice, Obama. Sometimes it’s just about survival.

Obama makes it about social justice and Ted Cruz actually knows what he’s talking about.

The story of the Maccabees and Antiochus is where the famous “Line in the sand” phrase comes from so naturally Obama would want to stay away from that one.

President Obama: IQ 89

Senator Cruz: IQ 154

Just my own guesstimate.

Obama’s “greeting” is perfectly in line with modernist thinking. Every religious tenet and holiday is “really” about something else—some abstract idea. Easter is about how hope strengthens the human spirit, no matter what adversities may come our way. Christmas is about the beauty of childhood innocence. Blah blah blah.

To the modernist, all religions are “really” about exactly the same things—”universal values.” This is, of course, very convenient for those who want to gloss over the fact that Islam is about worshiping Satan and cutting off heads.

Note that Cruz’s message immediately brings up the miracle that is the REAL (as opposed to the “real”) point of Hannukah.

Resonates strongly with me. I was surprised to see it in the Washington Compost - but the snarky comments to it did not surprise me at all.

Outstanding!
