Moscow, September 1, Interfax - UNESCO needs to consider ways to protect cultural values amid ISIL attacks on cultural monuments in Syria's Palmyra, Russian Foreign Sergey Lavrov has said.
"Under these circumstances, the task of the protection of cultural values under a relevant UN convention is very topical. I think we should think about concrete steps at the UNESCO in order to provide this position of the international community," Lavrov said at MGIMO University on September 1.
"The destruction of cultural monuments in Iraq and Syria's Palmyra demonstrates that these people [ISIL fighters] not only seek to grab power on a huge territory but also to deliberately undermine the very foundation of human culture," he said.

Impossible to protect them, because the moment you create an enclave people will rush to it, in order to be protected themselves. Then you are also creating a bastion for opposition fighters.

When Israel conquered 'Eretz Kena`an G-d ordered them to exterminate the Canaanites utterly (a commandment still in force today) and to destroy all their idols. The idea that such idols are part of "mankind's glorious heritage" is an "enlightenment" idea based on the assumption that all religions are human creations and each one is part of humanity's gradual religious evolution.
Technically, Jews are required by Halakhah to destroy any idol they happen to come upon (in 'Eretz Yisra'el they are required to actively seek out idols and destroy them). These commandments are not practiced currently because of the current situation which makes them very difficult to carry out, not because Judaism has "evolved" to a "more civilized" state.

You have that backwards. They are supporting Assad. We supported ISIS with funds, non lethal aid, and weapons through Benghazi via Turkey. Except we called them “moderate opposition”.

That’s old testament garbage. No Christian today is under any commandment to destroy an idol, artifact, or temple of any other religion. There is a new covenant and Jesus replaced all of that.

They did not side with ISIS during the destruction of other shrines and tombs. You wont be able to find a word of support for them ever. They support the Assad side and always have.
We support the rebels who are the only ones doing this vile work. Obama even tried to fly air support on behalf of the animals doing this stuff until the Russians outmaneuvered Obama.
