Return of the Lord ... this is what Paul wrote to the people he converted to Christ in Thessalonika. Someone had told them that the Tribulation had already begun and those who had died believing in Christ were left behind, that the Coming of Jesus to take His bride out of the hour of testing had already happened and they had missed it! Paul wrote the following to comfort them:
1Thess4:13 -18
13 But we don't want you to be ignorant, brothers, concerning those who have fallen asleep, so that you don't grieve like the rest, who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus. For this we tell you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left to the coming of the Lord, will in no way precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with God's trumpet. The dead in Christ will rise first, then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air. So we will be with the Lord forever.18 Therefore comfort one another with these words.
Now it didn't take long for the folks to get another false teacher showing up in letter form, again claiming that the tribulation had arrived and they had missed the catching away, the departure of His Bride. So Paul wrote another letter:
2 Thess 2:1 Now, brothers, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and our gathering together to him, we ask you not to be quickly shaken in your mind, nor yet be troubled, either by spirit, or by word, or by letter as from us, saying that the day of Christ had come. Let no one deceive you in any way. For it will not be, unless the departure comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of destruction ...
5 Don't you remember that, when I was still with you, I told you these things? 6 Now you know what is restraining him, to the end that he may be revealed in his own season. For the mystery of lawlessness already works. Only there is one who restrains now, until he is taken out of the way. 8 Then the lawless one will be revealed ... World English Bible
Paul has told us that Christians are nor appointed to wrath but to Salvation. The true Church, The Bride of Christ, The Body of Christ will be removed so that the man of sin, the spirit of lawlessness is unrestrained on earth. Then will the man of sin be revealed. Jesus is coming back in the Air soon, and 1 Thess 4 will take place, departing the believers to be with Him in His Father's House, the place He told the disciples He was going to, to prepare a place for them. And He promised to return and take them to himself and back to the Father's House. [John 14]
And if anyone is wondering about that ‘Restrainer’ and ‘he’ and the Bride of Christ, well those born from above are made alive with Christ by The Holy Spirit. He is the one Restraining the lawlessness and the man of sin. When the Church is gone the role of restrainer (for our being raised up in the Way that we should go) will be removed.
For Orthodox Christians, that day is already here.
