Pope Francis encouraged the faithful to be on guard against visionaries in a remark that seemed to be aimed at the seers of Medjugorje--during his homily at Mass on June 9.
In a comment about Christians who search constantly for some special new insight, some novelty in the faith, the Pope said: Where are the visionaries who can tell us exactly what message Our Lady will be sending at four in the morning?
Although the Pope did not identify any particular visionaries, his comment came just a few days after he had been asked to make a public statement on the alleged apparitions at Medjugorje. Several of the people who claim to have experienced visions of the Virgin Mary still report regular daily apparitions, and even announce in advance when those visions will occur.
In his homily Pope Francis was arguing against the modern Gnostics who practice a slightly ethereal spirituality and search for a special mystical vision, and base their faith on private revelations.
This identity is not Christian, the Holy Father said. The Gnostic approach, he argued, is as wrong-headed as that of those who seek to avoid the scandal of the Cross. He reminded his congregation: Gods final Word is Jesus, and nothing else.
Ping!
Many of my family members and friends have visited Medjugorje. I personally do not wish to visit, since I am convinced that the “seers” are snake oil salesmen. However, my father received many blessing there.
Lots of Catholics believe so.
Lack of transparency only helps to increase demand for more visions.
Like you, I know of several people who have visited Medjugorje and come back transformed. Personally, I have no desire to visit.
The answer has been given by one of the seers, Lucia .. an emphatic "NO".
Sounds like he might be scared about someone’s vision.
Other than that, I didn't experience anything miraculous. I went to Mass and went to confession. Climbed both mountains. Sampled the wine, the beer and the pizza, and the home cooked food at the B&B. It's was all good. Lovely place and no mosquitos.
Have you ever heard of Our Lady of Good Success. I just learned about it today, absolutely fascinating. The prophecies are for today, but the were given in the 1600’s. So many have already come true. It is right on point on what is going on today in the church. Amazing! It is an approved apparition.
My sediments sentiments same as yours. As your father discovered, God can still deliver grace and miracles to sincere visitors despite the frauds taking place nearby.
Medjugorje Is not an approved apparition
It’s very simple
