Stating that Mary is the mother of God does indeed deify her.
She’s the mother of Jesus, as the Holy Spirit inspired the writers of Scripture to identify her as.
It’s men who think that the Holy Spirit did an inadequate job of identifying her and assigned a new title to her, one that is NOT accurate and only leads to more error and confusion.

LOL! God doesn’t have a mother. There’s only God, His son Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Mary was a human and she is dead, as are all the others, awaiting the resurrection and the Judgment.
