Church of England to 'legalise' suicide in historic U-turn on funerals

The Church of England is embroiled in a row over proposals to sweep away laws that forbid a full Christian funeral to people who have taken their own lives.

Most clergy now regard suicide with far more sympathy than when ‘self murder’ was still a crime, and the move will be seen as reflecting a growing acceptance as more Britons choose to end their lives in clinics such as Dignitas in Switzerland.

But some critics within the Church say the reforms will ‘legalise’ suicide, which should still be regarded a serious sin.

I’ve seen quite a few funeral processions in my time and can’t recall ever seeing a u-turn.

I wonder how they’re doing to un-condemn two millennia worth of souls that went to hell for committing suicide?

hit an existential mulligan?

The Government told people how they had to conduct funerals?

Such is life under a State Church, whether it’s Church of England, Catholic, Lutheran, Russian Orthodox or anything else.

We forget what our Founders fought for. We have no State Church.

Church of England to 'legalise' suicide in historic U-turn on funerals

==================================================

Unbelievably sad for English Christians.
There will be a reckoning for those clerics, both male and female now, I assume, who fed this seeming FRENZY for "nothing is evil anymore," not even suicide.

We belong to God and we have no right to end the life He gave us. No right whatsoever.

Since most people who commit suicide are literally not in their right minds, I agree with them on this. It’s best to give the deceased the benefit of the doubt that they were mentally/emotionally impaired at the time and not making a rational decision.

This is interesting because I did not know that the CoE up to this point did not allow funerals for those that committed suicide. The post Vatican II, Novus Ordo church has been allowing this for decades now.

There are lots of English Christians, just not many left in the Anglican "church" -- when I lived there, the Catholic Churches were full and I peeked inside a few Baptist and Coptic Churches and they were packed as well.

For my first couple of Sundays I went to an Anglican Church and was puzzled why the average age, bar me, seemed to be about 68

i believe there are still some Christians left in the CoE but they are probably in their 70s or 80s
