Pope's Way of the Cross to highlight economic crisis, unemployment and refugees
Rome Reports ^ | 4-15-2014

Posted on 04/15/2014 5:36:43 PM PDT by ebb tide

The list is rather long: refugees and immigrants, those affected by violence, the economic crisis, unemployment, exploitation. They're just a few of topics the Pope will reflect on during the Way of the Cross on Good Friday, at Rome's Colosseum.

The author of the meditations is the archbishop of Campobasso-Boiano, Giancarlo Bregantini. For the 14 meditations along the procession, the archbishop sought to highlight some of gravest sins and injustices that humanity carries out in the 21st Century.

This list also includes topics like torture, or a justice system "drowning in a sea of bureaucracy.” But Archbishop Bregantini also addressed problems closer to home, like the suffering of children who died from cancer, caused by the disposal of toxic waste.

Let’s stick to your comment and the Biblical account, shall we?

I’m not “sticking” to anything. I don’t come here for theology, but rather politics and the like. If you want to discuss religion, go right ahead. That’s not my purpose here, and I don’t want to argue with someone who clearly has different beliefs. What’d be the point?

I didn’t say I didn’t want to see everything, rather I didn’t want to fight over whether Saul of Tarsus was infallible or not. Am I not allowed to have an opinion on a religious thread without it becoming a flame war over one personage? Are you asking me to stay off of such threads?

To persuade someone to change their mind. I'm assuming that's why you come to discuss politics and the like.

To doubt something so basic as the Apostolic bonafides of Paul, which is testified by Paul himself, his way of life, the power of his writings, and the other Apostles, makes me doubt your entire salvation. It is very important that you repent of such heresy, lest something worse come upon you, since you are, basically, causing damage to portions of the word of God for those who hear you and do not know any better, not to mention all the damage you are doing to yourself by doubting the authenticity of large portions of the scripture.

In your previous post you said "I don’t come here for theology" and theology is the main subject on Religion Forum threads.

You are welcome to post on the Religion Forum - do understand that theology, religious authorities, deities, etc. will be discussed, flamed or even ridiculed on "open" RF threads.

Not really. I assume that most here are already fairly conservative or they wouldn't be at such a site. Plus, one’s personal spiritual beliefs are much more tightly held than political ideology, in my experience. I'm not going to convince a committed Catholic that Luther and Protestantism are right.

My original post here:

Please show me where Christ opined about layoffs, unemployment and the GDP.

It had zero to do with Paul.

Well, Rabbi, that’s not your job, is it? We live in a country with a First Amendment in the Bill of Rights and my beliefs (or lack of them) are my business, not yours. Right?

It is most certainly my job to tell you if your house is burning down. What is the great commission for then? Don't be offended that I tell you that your foot may slip and you will fall into the ditch. Be offended that you may be in fatal error, and rectify your error.

Can you tell me why you aren't responding to the fact that Paul called himself an Apostle, that he was acknowledged by the other Apostles, and his writing was called scripture by the apostles? It is a fact that the Apostle Paul is, in fact, an Apostle. This cannot be denied. It is proven. It is established. It is a historical fact of 2000 years of Christianity and of the whole scripture, with facts like a steel wall that you cannot break. So, what's the problem?

Ah, notice the “gravest sins” included ... and not included.

The “us” is all who are searching for God’s truth, unfiltered by uninspired men. Luther rightly argued that we ought to go directly to the Scriptures.

It might be hard to believe, but even though Bibles abound, there are many even today who teach things not found in it. The simple and friendly challenge we ought to make frequently to one another - and to ourselves - is: Where is that found in the Scriptures?

Thanks for the ping. Not surprised to hear that his favorite themes were trotted out again on Good Friday.
