Fr Paul Schenck: Immaculate Conception Tells us Who Mary Is and Who We Are (Catholic Caucus)
Catholic Online ^ | 12/9/2013 | Fr. Paul Schenck

The Blessed Virgin Mary is the ideal disciple and model follower of Jesus Christ for each and every one of us. She has been aptly called \"the first Christian\", and when you think about it - that is so true. \"Be it done to me according to your word.\" The Immaculate Conception tells us not only about Mary, who she is and what she represents, but it also tells us about each and every one of us, about ourselves and our own lives

I fly unto you, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To you I come; before you I stand sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate! Despise not my petitions, but in your mercyhear and answer me. Amen.

I fly unto you, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To you I come; before you I stand sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate! Despise not my petitions, but in your mercy hear and answer me. Amen.

Mary has no input into my salvation, she can not change my life in any way, my prayers, or my relationship with God. Mary has no power to affect me in this life.

I respect her because God picked her among all women to bear His Son, but that’s it.

No prayers should be said to her, not statues erected to her, no churches named after her....

Beautiful post; I like how Fr. connected the Immaculate Conception to our uniqueness. I’ve mentioned this to our own children since forever. I pray they fully believe it.

We ask Mary to pray for us. You will someday too.

“We know that all things work for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose. For those he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, so that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. And those he predestined he also called; and those he called he also justified; and those he justified he also glorified.”

Romans 8:28-30

No prayers should be said to her, not statues erected to her, no churches named after her...

Mary is the great Mediatrix. She has no POWER. She has the special place in our lives because of God's choice to invite her to be the mother of our Savior. THAT is special enough.

Catholics venerate her, not adore her. If they do adore her, then they aren't following their faith.

Prayers can be directed to her, asking favors. We pray to our loved ones who have passed and ask them to pray for us. We speak to them and it's not heresy. We don't pray TO them, only FOR us.

There is nothing wrong with having statues erected to her. We do that for all KINDS of people in this country, regardless of their faith. Likewise, there is nothing wrong with having churches named after her. We name ALL kinds of things for ALL kinds of reasons.

The great error is thinking that, in any way, shape or form, she is any kind of deity. She is the MOTHER of one, not anything else.

Let’s just say it is like asking another Christian believe to pray for you.

Why? Do you have difficulty memorizing the Catholic prayers?

I'm not much into formal religion, but I do say my "Hail Marys" in tough times.

She is about trust in forces larger than herself and love of child. That's where salvation begins, both on earth and in whatever may follow. JMHO
