The existence of bad popes centuries ago do not disprove the truth of doctrines.

It sure PROVES that a GROUP of MEN, deciding just WHO should be a POPE; can wander into VERY serious ERROR!

You seem to be on a tear.

You; son; have interrupted an ELSIEthon; and a SUNDAY one at that!

(You DO know the required penance for that offense; right?)

Dumb yourself down enough.

Not doctrinally it doesn’t. You are confusing infallibility with impeccability.

If they were buying what the RCC was selling then they weren't the brightest light bulb in the room anyways.

I don’t think I was ever able to have an intelligent discussion about the Holy Scripture with a former Catholic. It’s always evasion, changing the subject, copy-pasting kilobytes of Protestant pulp, ignorance of the gospel, lies about the Holy Catholic Church and inability to comprehend plain English. If they are not dumb, they are doing a good job pretending.

Oh noes!! Elsie. vlady says you were confusing infallibility with impeccability. My Bible says that’s pretty serious . . wait . . nope . . it doesn’t either. The Impeccability Doctrine ain’t even in the Bible. I don’t know if valdy knows what he’s talking about.

It makes you wonder why they ever left "The One True Church" in the first place, ya' know?

I’ll whisper a little truth to you: I don’t care if they leave. My Church is not a popularity contest; it’s a miracle anyone stays. If all they can swallow is Protestant pap, that is where they belong and there is nothing I can do about it.

speaking of copy-pasting kilobytes of Catholic pulp, narses posted this. How charming.

I was with you up until this gem. I say it's a wonder anyone leaves. All of the rituals with the back and forth stuff between the priest and congregation. It makes you feel like home. Like you belong. They make you feel comfortable.

Make 'em play nice. --lnf

If Patty-Cake is all we're capable of; then GOD help us when the REAL STUFF hits the fan!

I was lampooning the tendency of some around here to post absurdly sectarian things under the [Ecumenical] tag. I don't play that game.

This “back and forth”, by the way, is a 1960’s invention, and an attempt to protestantize my Church. A good priest serves like the congregation is not there, in fact, he better have his back to them.

When you get an accurate count of the angels on the head of your pin, please do not post the results on FR, especially if you distinguish them by type of angel! The total presented would be bound to cause great consternation and rancorous debate amongst various parties. If you included count by type of angel as well, that would start a war such as has not been seen since the European Wars of religion! Imagine the anger of Seraphim supporters if you stated they were below the Cherubim, or vice versa, let alone archangels or, heaven help us, Azariah!

PLEASE, avoid including your results because a FR civil war about angels would not be pleasant!

My soul magnifies the Lord,
And my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.
For He has regarded the low estate of His handmaiden,
For behold, henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.
For He who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is His name. And His mercy is on those who fear Him from generation to generation.
He has shown strength with His arm:
He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
He has put down the mighty from their thrones,
and exalted those of low degree.
He has filled the hungry with good things;
and the rich He has sent empty away.
He has helped His servant Israel, in remembrance of His mercy;
As He spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to His posterity forever.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen

Magníficat ánima mea Dóminum,
et exsultávit spíritus meus
in Deo salvatóre meo,
quia respéxit humilitátem
ancíllæ suæ.

Ecce enim ex hoc beátam
me dicent omnes generatiónes,
quia fecit mihi magna,
qui potens est,
et sanctum nomen eius,
et misericórdia eius in progénies
et progénies timéntibus eum.
Fecit poténtiam in bráchio suo,
dispérsit supérbos mente cordis sui;
depósuit poténtes de sede
et exaltávit húmiles.
Esuriéntes implévit bonis
et dívites dimísit inánes.
Suscépit Ísrael púerum suum,
recordátus misericórdiæ,
sicut locútus est ad patres nostros,
Ábraham et sémini eius in sæcula.

Glória Patri et Fílio
et Spirítui Sancto.
Sicut erat in princípio,
et nunc et semper,
et in sæcula sæculórum.

Amen.

I did not know that. I've only been to a few events (mostly funerals) and charity balls and stuff like that. As a side note at my HS graduation - early 70s- we ran out of booze and some friends (I was with them) went to the KC Hall purchased some. That was a different age though.
