A student at Florida Atlantic University has charged that his professor in intercultural communications class told the whole class to write the name JESUS in bold letters on a piece of paper, then drop the papers and stomp all over them.
The alleged incident happened three weeks ago on the Davie, Florida campus of FAU, according to WPEC-TV.
Junior Ryan Rotela, a devout Mormon, is the student making the charge.
Anytime you stomp on something it shows that you believe that something has no value, he told the South Florida CBS affiliate. So if you were to stomp on the word Jesus, it says that the word has no value.
Some students stomped; others, including Rotela, didnt. He said he told the instructor, Deandre Poole, that the assignment offended his religious convictions.

Just like Mark Studdock in That Hideous Strength. (CS Lewis)
So glad to see that others on FR have read one of my favorite books.
Stomp Jesus FAU professor (Dr. Deandre Poole)is a Dem. Party official
This is the best that a university can offer for classes? Teaching folks how to stomp?
When you go back to the 1800s version of a university...it was about enlightenment and discussions over Greek tragic operas, Roman history, engineering, and communication. We didn’t really pump out that many folks, and if you ever admitted that you’d graduated from a real university....you were somebody.
Today? You basically graduate and admit you’ve been stomping on paper with God or Jesus written on it....as part of the classes. Folks would look at you.
The sad thing is that you could have taken a class on Greek tragic opera or Roman history, and been a thousand times more enlightened, than with the stomping class. Sadly, tax payers fund this stuff. Go figure.
I’d like to see the professor try the same stunt with Mohammed and see what the reaction is.
What was the point of this idiocy? Does any legitimate teaching or learning go on in colleges these days? What sort of job does this prepare a student for - community organizer?
It’s impossible to go overboard with so-called ‘conservative conspiracies’ because they ALWAYS TURN OUT TO BE TRUE!!!
These are communists! There can be no other explanation. Under normal circumstances, the student would have just gotten a zero for class discussion and that would have been the end of it.
Can’t say I’m looking forward to civil war but it’s coming soon.
I’ve read it, though it’s been a long time.
Just another Latter Day Saint (Mormon) showing that his commitment to Christ our Saviour is the central theme in his life and in his heart.
I would just write OBAMA in big letters and stomp on that. If questioned, I would say “You can stomp on my god, I’ll stomp on yours.”
wow
I am sure the ACLU and the Justice Dept will show up ASAP
What Jesus is that T?
The Biblical Jesus or the was once a man lds jesus?
However, the bigger question is why is the university doing this crap-o-la in the first place?
And yet the Book of Mormon and the LDS doctrine does the very same thing...
Lets see how long he would have lasted if he had students stomp on a Koran? or an image of Mohammed? Not Long indeed. Some one better tell him that Islamic people revere Jesus too as Jehu—In their belief system he is greater than Mohammed (this I can agree with them on). A stupid lesson and one that should get his behind out of any class room. What does he think? that we live in a nation of Free Speech?

Coincidentally, or maybe not, the other thread on this topic has more information. Therein, it claims that Student’s hesitation to not stomp is part of the intended purpose of the exercise. IOW, stomping on the name of Jesus isn’t something he could have been punished for, as it was expected that students would not do so or hesitate. The idea being, that it would be a way to move to a larger discussion on the power of names or symbolism.
As stupid as the lesson is, it’s pretty fishy that he would be punished at all for reacting according to script.
So, while I have no real sympathy for the university, I tend to lean on this being another one of those moments where the Mormon guy invents a dead girlfriend, or climbs up on the cross for attention, even though he knows we need the wood.
The early articles on this reek of sensationalism, and I think we need the professor’s side on it, or other students, to know what really happened.
