BERKELEY — Religious affiliation in the United States is at its lowest point since it began to be tracked in the 1930s, according to analysis of newly released survey data by researchers from the University of California, Berkeley, and Duke University. Last year, one in five Americans claimed they had no religious preference, more than double the number reported in 1990.

Very frightening, though not unexpected, given the moral barometer of this country over the past decade.

Somebody please ‘splain to me why I should take anything serious from such a university, a pinnacle of Californian carelessness and nonchalant disdain over anything moral or ethical? For them to comment on anything traditionally religious is about the equivalent as a whore quoting bible verse in church on Sunday Morning.

No doubt the Berkeley types are using this article as an excuse to further their agenda.

More and more people want a permissive, subjectivistic, relativistic morality so that it is easier to achieve one's own individual self actualization.

it tracks with results from other surveys. America is becoming a secular country. Sticking our head in the sand won’t help.

I don’t find it frightening; I find it comforting; we’re finally nearing the end. The great winnowing can’t be far behind.

What does scare me somewhat is that after watching the Super Bowl half time show I realized that we live in the fastest developing Pagan society in History.......the country is going backward. You can see the unravling all about you. Just today it was reported a woman strapped her 8 month old child to her and jumped out a 4th floor window.

How horrible! Unfortunately, I predict many such things happening. Ironically, as Americans now have the potential, thanks to science, to live longer, many won’t. Suicide will become the cultural norm. In our youth-obsessed, instant gratification culture, I can’t imagine anyone having the stamina to withstand not only age but responsibility.

A religious president that spoke openly about God and was respected by the people could reverse these tends significantly IMO.

I understand what you are saying; still, I must set aside the propagandistic aspect of anything coming out of Berkeley.

To illustrate: if the Democrat Party lost a dozen points in membership, the headline would not read: "America is becoming a Republican country." Perhaps America would be a more independent country, or many other things; to the left, however, any bleeding away from traditional forms of religion or politics signals not a new form of the same set of beliefs, but rather their elimination. They simply cannot imagine that their utopian dreams are unrealistic, unworkable and have failed everywhere they have been tried, and will fail here; although at great cost.

As for secularization: yes, achieving it has been one of the chief battering rams of the communist/anti-God "progressive" movement, which in the sweep of time will be correctly recognized as thoroughly regressive in society. The ACLU, SPLC, CAIR and other satanic organizations have used the courts to disarm and bewilder those who understand, accept and want to uphold our Bill of Rights and Natural Law. But the wonderful thing about Nature is that Nature's God keeps supplying new, natural beings who are born in His image and likeness, and who naturally want Natural Law, unless they have been perverted by abuse, and sometimes even if they have.

Wait and see. God is still in charge, regardless of what the triumphalist propagandists think they have achieved.
