Ministers should refrain from invoking Jesus Christ in invocations for City Council meetings, Longview Mayor Don Jensen said.
Jensen told the Kelso-Longview Ministerial Association last month that such prayers were not acceptable because they could expose the city to a lawsuit, The Daily News reported Tuesday.
Its not my choice to stop this, but I dont know how we can put our citizens at jeopardy and cost our city and our citizens a lot of money, said Jensen, who met with the association upon the advice of the city attorney....

so how can it be an invocation with out some mention or participation of a higher being? Isn’t that then just a athletic style pep talk?
I tell ya, these lefty nuts defy logic daily.

It’s precisely these types of statements from govt officials that are prohibited. City council cannot tell anyone how to pray. Doing so exposed the city to greater risk of lawsuit.

8When the world hates you, remember it hated me before it hated you. 19The world would love you if you belonged to it, but you dont. I chose you to come out of the world, and so it hates you. 20Do you remember what I told you? A servant is not greater than the master. Since they persecuted me, naturally they will persecute you. And if they had listened to me, they would listen to you! 21The people of the world will hate you because you belong to me, for they dont know God who sent me. 22They would not be guilty if I had not come and spoken to them. But now they have no excuse for their sin. 23Anyone who hates me hates my Father, too. 24If I hadnt done such miraculous signs among them that no one else could do, they would not be counted guilty. But as it is, they saw all that I did and yet hated both of usme and my Father. 25This has fulfilled what the Scriptures said: they hated me without cause.

Looks like the Knox Paper is trying to stir up some strife over "In GOD We Trust" sign at the courthouse. Local donations cover all cost I don't see the issue there.

If any courthouse needs that sign ours sure does LOL. Those same words likely hung in the old one as well. I just didn’t pay attention growing up.
