An interesting read. Today, Evangelical is simply used to group the right-leaning, traditionalist Christians like Lutherans and Southern Baptists. Evangelicals are usually mentioned by the media in regard to “Evangelical voting habits vs. Catholic voting habits.”
When I hear Democrats refer to themselves as Evangelicals
it makes me say WTH???
Then again I also say WTH when I hear a Democrat refer to themselves as a Christian period.
Voting Democrat even aside from abortion and homosexuality (Both of these disqualify in my opinion) however just the fact that voting Democrat means a person approves of the Name of Jesus being removed from classroom/society, certainly disqualifies them on it`s own.
How could a Christian argue for removal of Christ and His Word from classroom/public square
It`s not judging to use common sense
This sort of thing happans to many words. The word “evangelical” is from the Greek word for “gospel”.
I think Tyndale had the most accurate definition.
After all, aren’t the Gospel writers called evangelists?
uh...........
evangelists are ones that spread the truth of the Word of God!
had nothing to do with themselves, politics.........just JESUS!
not even your particular brand of religion.
blessings, bobo
Not all evangelicals are evangelical..
The word "Evangelical" has its roots in the Latin term "evangelium" which was a decree from Caesar that was not only informative, but performative. It was a message that substantially changed or transformed the lives of those who received it. A good example of a message that is performative or transformative would be if a duly authorized law enforcement officer were to tell you that you are under arrest. The net effect would be far more consequential that a merely informative message.
To be Evangelical in a Christian sense is to carry the transformative message of the Revealed word, to have an effect on the world and to transform those with whom we share it.
Peace be with you.
