Gravediggers have jumped up and down on the coffin of an elderly woman to force it into a tight hole as her family looked on in horror, according to her family.

The workers at a Roman Catholic cemetery near Pittsburgh are also accused of poking it with poles.

Theodore Zimmick, his daughter and granddaughter sued the Pittsburgh diocese and its Catholic Cemeteries Association over the burial of his 91-year-old mother, Agnes Zimmick...

After the funeral service...saw workers stamping and walking on the coffin and otherwise jamming it into the grave.

Funny, this story never made our local news in Pittsburgh AND the story says the claims were investigated - and found to be bogus.

You wouldn’t happen to be trolling the ‘net for anti-Catholic garbage to post, now would you?

Just sayin’

I'd say this isn't aimed so much as Catholics as it is against the illegal (mostly) alien Mexicans that are doing most of the grave digging in all too many parts of this nation.

I personally witnessed a very similar problem (too small hole) at a Jewish cemetery, dug by, and filled by Mexicans that could not speak a word of English... happened recently in a Los Angeles suburban cemetery.

Why don’t you check the link in post #2 if you are in doubt about the anti-Catholicism at play here.

There’s no mention of Mexicans in the article. And, the article ends by saying the claim was investigated and ruled “unfounded”

Really? I thought the Pittsburgh Post Gazette was located in, well, Pittsburgh. And what about the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review?

AND the story says the claims were investigated - and found to be bogus.

Investigated by whom? Accoding to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review:

The Rev. Ron Lengwin, spokesman for the diocese, referred comment to the cemeteries association.

Annabelle McGannon, executive director of the cemeteries association, said she had not seen the lawsuit but was "very familiar" with a similar complaint the family made to the cemetery.

"The family filed a complaint and we investigated it thoroughly. We are confident after our investigation that the allegations are unfounded," McGannon said. "Beyond that, it's our policy not to comment on issues in litigation."

Seems like an outside agency should have been brought in. But I suppose we'll find out when it hits the courtroom.

You wouldn’t happen to be trolling the ‘net for anti-Catholic garbage to post, now would you?

Trolling? Nah. Just type the word "Catholic" into Google News and it is hit number 7 on the first page of results. Not exactly trolling, by any definition. (It's just below articles on the New Mass, Priests taking money from the offering tray and Catholic Priests sodomizing children.

Anti-Catholic why? Certainly not made up. A Google search returns 32,700 hits. This is stuff you just can't make up.

There’s no mention of Mexicans in the article.

You mean the same Mexicans that are harbored by the American Branch of the Roman Catholic? Most of whom are also Roman Catholics?

And, the article ends by saying the claim was investigated and ruled “unfounded”

Ruled unfounded? By who? The Cemetery Association, that's who.
Let's see what the courts decide.

My first MIL passed at 53. Her ex-husband and father of her 6 kids dug her grave personally. I found it odd but he was a volunteer groundskeeper at the cemetary so I guess I could understand.

He dug the grave too narrow.

There we were, about 200 people standing around this grave, the poor guy with one foot on the casket and one foot on the ground, digging frantically at the sides of the hole with a 6 foot long crowbar.

I (standing behind my wife of the time) leaned in to whisper to her and her sisters; “That’s your mom, giving him all kinds of trouble all the way to the end.”

They all broke up laughing, it got infectious. The only one that didn’t laugh was their Dad.

They dig graves with a backhow around here.

I don’t remember the last time a grave was dug by Manual Labor the Mexican gravedigger.

To many people being anti-illegal alien equals being anti-catholic.

Yeah - the grave at the cemetery was dug with a backhoe, operated by a Mexican. (He was there on the machine waiting to cover up the grave.) It was on a rather steep slope, but the hole was simply a little too short for the length of the coffin.

This was the first Jewish burial I ever attended - and I found that I had to help cover up the coffin (with shovels - some tradition.) But, the first thing we had to do was use the shovels to extend the length of the grave to allow the coffin to settle to the bottom of the hole! It wasn't that easy to do because of the depth.

Almost everyone there, including women, put a few shovels of dirt in the grave.

Agreed. I would think graves are standard sized for adults, depending on the size of the vault or casket, depending on tradition. If they’re dug with a backhoe, which I believe most are these days, I can’t believe these mopes don’t use a tape measure and cut the hole with relative ease?

Unless you have any information indicating otherwise, I doubt this grave was dug by Mexicans. There are hardly any Mexicans in Western Pa. Allegheny County is only 0.87% Hispanic or Latino of any race. Pittsburgh is the least-Hispanic metro area with a population greater than 1,000,000, and if you look at a list of least Hispanic metro areas of any size, you will find most to be in the Pennsylvania-Ohio-West Virginia tri-state area.

Link to Census Data

I was actually at this cemetery recently. (If you like unpronounceable Polish names, it is the place to be.) I did not notice any Mexicans, and the only reason I would ever suspect Mexicans to be there is because it is located near the small mill town of Etna, which is the only area I can think of in Western Pa that ever had a noticeable Mexican population. However, it is very small, and it has been there for generations. There is no large group of Mexicans fresh off crossing the border, like how you would typically think a Mexican community to be like.
