Vanity: a question about the Millennium
Former Fetus

Posted on 08/21/2011 7:22:17 PM PDT by Former Fetus

We are discussing Rev. 20 in my Sunday school class. One of my students challenged me to show her a verse that says that Jesus will literally rule from Jerusalem during the Millennium. I don't think there's such a verse, that it is more like something you can deduce from some Old Testament prophecy. For example, Messiah will be on David's throne and where else but Jerusalem could David's throne be found? Anyhow, if anybody has some good verses that I can use, I will love to hear from y'all. Thanks.

David’s throne is a metaphor for the House of David...not an actual throne. And if I recall correctly, the Bible speaks of a “New Jerusalem”, so that doesn’t necessarily mean the geographical location of Jerusalem here on earth.

There is an excellent, older FR thread on the subject that might help with understanding her challenge:

Jesus will come down and set foot on the Mt. of Olives.
That is in Jerusalem.
The New Jerusalem will come down from Heaven later after the defeat of Satan and his minions.

Best wishes for your search for good proof texts. The problem I have with inference or deduction is that it doesn’t convincingly distinguish between a supposed earthly millennium and the conditions that would prevail in the new heavens and the new earth. It’s a hermeneutical disagreement, between those who interpret scriptures so as to provide for distinct fulfillments for Israel and for the church (i.e., dispensationalism) and those who regard the church as now being the present and future Israel, that is, the natural Israelite believers with believing Gentiles grafted in, all constituting one body.

That’s where we got started... that verse does not mention Jerusalem.

Not sure it’s what you’re looking for, but Revelation 21 speaks about heaven in terms of the Heavenly Jerusalem, the Twelve-gated City.

That is the basic image that St. Augustine draws on in The City of God.

It would take a clear understanding of the prophecy of Isaiah 14:28-Isaiah 20 as an endtimes middle east play.

Highlights, Isaiah 14:28+ must be read alongside Zephaniah 2 as they are parallels.

The grand mufti of Jerusalem, the first Arab leader of Palistine who sided with the Nazi’s

His root sprang forth Arafat, the Mufti was his grand Uncle, so Arafat was from the MUfti’s blood lines.

Arafats government began Hamas, worse than the taliban.

Warning to the Arab believers, to humble themselves before Gods will, and shuck the Arab supremism

Pronouncement of judgement that will wipe out gaza strip.

Rebuke to the United states in Isaiah only...

Isaiah 15
Destruction of Moab,

Isaiah 16 then destruction of edom, both jordan.

Isaian 17 destruction of Syria, most likely nuclear damascus.

Isaiah 18 Occupation of America, As we treated Abrahams seed over Gaza so it will be done to us, but Note:

In the end, this nation of tall smoothed skinned people will bring homage to the root of David IN ZION. This is a clear picture of Jesus ruling in Israel at the end of the days of the gentiles...

Isaiah 19 destruction of Egypt at its own hands. (Blowing the bypass on the Aswan in fear of Isreali attack, diverts the Nile.)

Private post me for questions, this is a lot to figure out from scant clues I have left you, but I am pressed for time.

Destruction o

Thanks. That’s an excellent article and I think I see what she’s really asking me. BTW, she’s a Seven Day Adventist and I am a Southern Baptist. We have been at odds ever since beginning with Revelation, way back last January!

Tell them their full time job is to figure out what God want’s them to be doing right now, and then to do it. The future will take care of itself.

Since Jesus’ throne is heavenly and his kingdom rules from heaven it would be difficult to make a case for the rejected Jerusalem on earth.

Jer 23

5Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth.

6In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.

7Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that they shall no more say, The LORD liveth, which brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt;

8But, The LORD liveth, which brought up and which led the seed of the house of Israel out of the north country, and from all countries whither I had driven them; and they shall dwell in their own land.

Zechariah 14
4And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south.

5And ye shall flee to the valley of the mountains; for the valley of the mountains shall reach unto Azal: yea, ye shall flee, like as ye fled from before the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah: and the LORD my God shall come, and all the saints with thee.

6And it shall come to pass in that day, that the light shall not be clear, nor dark:

7But it shall be one day which shall be known to the LORD, not day, nor night: but it shall come to pass, that at evening time it shall be light.

8And it shall be in that day, that living waters shall go out from Jerusalem; half of them toward the former sea, and half of them toward the hinder sea: in summer and in winter shall it be.

9And the LORD shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one LORD, and his name one.

10All the land shall be turned as a plain from Geba to Rimmon south of Jerusalem: and it shall be lifted up, and inhabited in her place, from Benjamin’s gate unto the place of the first gate, unto the corner gate, and from the tower of Hananeel unto the king’s winepresses.

11And men shall dwell in it, and there shall be no more utter destruction; but Jerusalem shall be safely inhabited.

12And this shall be the plague wherewith the LORD will smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem; Their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth.

13And it shall come to pass in that day, that a great tumult from the LORD shall be among them; and they shall lay hold every one on the hand of his neighbour, and his hand shall rise up against the hand of his neighbour.

14And Judah also shall fight at Jerusalem; and the wealth of all the heathen round about shall be gathered together, gold, and silver, and apparel, in great abundance.

15And so shall be the plague of the horse, of the mule, of the camel, and of the ass, and of all the beasts that shall be in these tents, as this plague.

16And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles.

17And it shall be, that whoso will not come up of all the families of the earth unto Jerusalem to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, even upon them shall be no rain.

Isaiah 9
6For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

7Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.

Isaiah 11

1And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots:

2And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;

3And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears:

4But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth: with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.

5And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his reins.

6The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.

7And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.

8And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice’ den.

9They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.

10And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious.
