Of course, most of us have the text from Matthew 24:36 in our Bibles (But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only.), but apparently this group thinks they have it nailed. They even have a whole series of teachings on the subject.

I put it out there for whoever's discernment. (Call me skeptical, since Harold Camping's been wrong before, but, hey, what do I know?)

Harold Camping has turned insane and is now a false prophet:

Fortunately for Camping, we are no longer under the old covenant - he'd be stoned otherwise.

Most of us Christians will agree that GODs clock is approaching Midnight, and that maybe already things have been set in motion for his second coming. But don't fall for false prophets that assign dates to events and to the second coming. Dates have been predicted before, and when they come and go and it makes a whole lot of people look like fools.

There are a lot of great studies done of end-time events, and it hurts no one to become knowledgeable of the events that will take place. But stay far away from those works that assign dates.

Well, I see his ministry IS located in Oakland, CA. It probably couldn’t come too soon for those overlooking Sodom by the Bay. ;-) Sorry, sorry. I just couldn’t resist. I take issue with his reading of the prophesy that the world will be destroyed. It will be restored. There isn’t a day or Sunday that goes by that we don’t all say, “As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be. World without end. Amen.” I doubt VERY sincerely, after all the history of study of the texts, we’d be wasting our breath on the “Glory Be” if it could be proved that it was all going to be reduced to a lump of coal. Nope, just don’t buy that.

As to time frame — if Abba says don’t go there — don’t go there. If it was good enough for His Son, then I don’t think I can improve on it.

If he is wrong on any point — he’s wrong. I detect a couple of klinkers in the tract.

Given how many arguments there are over the exact dates for most biblical events, I’d say he’s pulling those numbers out of his . . . well lets just say not his Bible!

I am no theologian, but isn’t the very act of predicting a specific date forbidden as “divination”? I understand that he’s trying to divine using the puzzle of scripture instead of the entrails of a goat (for example) but the way I read “The Book” it still isn’t how we are supposed to spend our remaining time.

As someone in a similar thread put it: What difference does it make if the world is going to end a year from now? Who says you’re going to live that long? You need to be ready today.

Ahh. OK. I was wondering where you were going with this. (Surely, not you too...)

Harold Camping. If he was ever a standard a- or post-mil kind of guy, he's far from that now.

Harold Camping

You might want to give a listen here (part one) and here (part two) of some fairly intense interaction between Camping and protestant apologist James White.

Sort of interaction, anyway. My impression at the time was that Camping wasn't all there anymore (he's way over 80). Camping would just take off on some off the wall numerology.

You're wise to be skeptical! This group should be added to all the "millennialist" prophecy groups one finds in the world. When Jesus returns, well, that's the END, period. Judgment Day is the day when ALL will be judged, both the dead and the living. There is no such "date" of Jesus' return to be found in the Bible, regardless of all the so-called prophecy experts. Yes, be skeptical...and watch and remain steadfast in the faith until the day one dies - one can then count on receiving the crown of glory, immortality!

Yeah, that's pretty silly.

So is it when people who laugh at such things turn right around and try to use it to "prove" that the messiah came two thousand years ago.

Funny, the same thing tends to cross my mind anytime I read a "this is the day" missive. Oh well.

Usually these guys have a history of making bad predictions but the loyal followers have a way of forgetting the ones that don’t come to pass by being excited by the next prediction.

Which of course disqualifies him as a prophet of God. He's just another loon looking to suck in the gullible and biblically illiterate throngs.
