-- I suppose Latter-day Saints shouldn't be too surprised the latest put-down from Chuck Colson, leader of the Prison Fellowship. Ironically, it was as he and leaders of Christian groups announced a new "civility covenant."
When a reporter asked if the covenant should include Glenn Beck, CNN reported Colson saying that the document:
"Wouldn't apply to Glenn Beck because we're talking about the conversation in the family of believers ... Glenn Beck is a Mormon." CNN continues: "Many Christians don't consider Mormons -- members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints -- to be Christians, though Mormons consider themselves Christian."
Colson's statements follow a long line of less-than-civil evangelical exclusionary actions including keeping Mormons out of National Day of Prayer services to a Christian student press group excluding BYU journalism students from its competition.

"But two recent polls found that at least one quarter of Americans said they would not vote for a Mormon for president. These findings are troubling and disappointing, but so is the fact that some religious conservatives have compared the Mormon religion to a 'cult' and its doctrines to paganism. The Web site of Pat Robertson's Christian Broadcasting Network, for example, says the religious beliefs of Mormons 'are simply wrong,' and 'when it comes to spiritual matters, the Mormons are far from the truth.' The deceased Lds "prophet" Gordon B. Hinckley told Larry King in a CNN interview that there was "no such thing as fundamentalist Mormons." (Trying to distance himself from the polygamist Mormons on Earth...of course, Lds don't distance themselves from the polygamous Mormons they say are living on Kolob or other planets!!!)
If the Lds "prophet" can define who is Mormon, why do some Lds chaff at the bit about actually claiming, "Yes, there are some boundaries to what constitutes Christianity?" (Otherwise, Christianity might as well be the Bahai)

You don't have to go to Robertson to find this eval of Mormons! It's been the contention of Christian leaders for a long time!
Why did they cite Robertson then on this when they could have referenced thousands of others? The same reason the homosexual activists, after Prop 8 passed in CA, didn't go after the minority voters who favored Prop 8 or the other Christian denominations that helped it to pass. They thought the Mormon church made an easier "target."
Bottom line: If you think you can become a god one day, then yes, you qualify as a polytheistic cult!
I don’t have any issues with Mormons and not voting for Mitt Romney doesn’t make me a bigot. Creating one more divisive group like the ADL isn’t going to help anyone.
Everyone in the media slammed Huckabee for pointing out that Mormons believe Jesus and Satan are brothers. But Huckabee was indeed correct.
I think there will be no Mormon Defamation League. Mormons would have to talk about how they were ‘defamed.’ That would open up a dialogue of their beliefs and that would be embarrassing.
How about Christians. We need one.
I thought mormons cried a lot about allowing others to freely practice their beliefs? Clearly, exclusions like this are fundamentally included in that article of faith. I'll bet moslems were excluded from the NDP services too - are they whinning about it?
Have to agree - the the morg prophet can define who is a mormon - Christianity can define who is a Christian. IF mormons are Christian - FLDS are equally mormons.
Does CAIR have to talk about Muslim beliefs? Other than the convenient ones which a lot of people share?
The “civility covenant” was an odd case in which Colson was taking sides with a marxist against a mormon.
If you can be civil with a marxist you can darned sure be civil with a mormon.

The Mittster needs to give one last speech on the topic of ALL truth inside the cult of mormonism.
I believe that to be a gross under statement.
Mormons are pretty good on the exclusion stuff themselves, as we’ve seen on that thread about the mother not being allowed in to view her son’s wedding.
If their beliefs were more in line with Christian beliefs, then they would more likely be welcome in the fellowship of believers. Why would the LDS want in?

All Christianity is corrupt; why join in with corruption?

The truth is frequently not P.C.
There were plenty more truths that Huck could have said and a lot more damning than that but he held his tongue.
FLDS are way, way closer to LDS, then LDS to any christian denomination.
