Philip Pullman to publish novel about 'the Scoundrel Christ'
The Guardian ^ | 7-Sep-2009 | Alison Flood

He enraged America's religious right with his portrayal of God as a senile old man in the His Dark Materials trilogy, and now Philip Pullman is set to court more Christian controversy – this time with a novel about "the Scoundrel Christ".

The book will provide a new account of the life of Jesus, challenging the gospels and arguing that the version in the New Testament was shaped by the apostle Paul. "By the time the gospels were being written, Paul had already begun to transform the story of Jesus into something altogether new and extraordinary, and some of his version influenced what the gospel writers put in theirs," said Pullman, who last year pronounced himself delighted that the His Dark Materials trilogy was one of the most "challenged" series in America's libraries, boasting the most requests for removal from the shelves because of its "religious viewpoint".

“Every knee shall bow, every toungue confess, that Jesus Christ is Lord.”

Hey, Pullman.

Why don’t you do a hit piece on Mohammed. You know, the delusional founder of that Religion of Barbarism and Savagery. The guy who spent his life as a pirate, a pedophile, a polygamist, a rapist, an adulterer, a warrior, a murderer, a torturer, an executioner, a thief, a plunderer, a liar, a trucebreaker, an oppressor, a despot.

Pullman is a coward.

Go after Christ, whose followers will pray for his salvation,.

Go after Mohammed, and his followers will endeavor to kill him, preferably in the most painful, degrading way they can.

We are to “love our enemies” but we are not to love “His ememies.” Those that mis-understand or hate Christ and the message of Christ will love those that despise Him.

“Let this mind be in you, which was in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God. But made Himself of no reputation, and took upon Him the form of a servant and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, He humbled Himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted Him, and given Him a name which is above every name: that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of the Father.” (Philippians 2:5-11)

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.” (Romans 1:16)

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the scriptures: And He was see of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, He was seen of above five hundred brethren at once.....” (1 Corinthians 15:1-6a)

“But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost; in whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, should shine unto them.” (2 Corinthians 4:3-5)

When you have nothing legitimate to write about, are a talentless hack and have a willing accomplice of a publisher this is what you get.

Boy, is he ever pissed that the Golden Compass movie bombed so badly in America that it killed the franchise and bankrupted the studio

It bombed badly in the rest of the world except the UK and Japan. They make it out that they did good business outside the US, but actually they didn't manage to recoup their costs except for those two countries (and Japan can be forgiven as they probably went to see it for the special effects and the cuddly polar bears (there were polar bears in that movie I'm sure))

I can see it now, Mr. Pullman writes a diatribe against the evil that is the modern day mayfly -- and how it's intellect is too high.

First of all, there’s absolutely no evidence for his claims whatsoever. Jesus’ miracles and ultimately his resurrection were witnessed by hundreds and hundreds of people. The Gospel writers, specifically Luke, refer to these eyewitness multiple times. “Don’t take my word for it, ask the eyewitnesses who are still living, who saw Christ after his resurrection, etc. etc.” Perhaps the most compelling argument is the tenacity of the martyrs of the early church. If Christ was a lie, why would so many willfully go to their deaths for the cause?

John Chapter 20:

"29": Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.

"30": And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book:

"31": But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

II Peter 1:

"16": For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.

"17": For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

"18": And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.

"19": We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:

"20": Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.

"21": For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
