Why Obama Is Losing a Faith
By Michael Gerson Wednesday, April 1, 2009; Page A21
A number of Catholic thinkers set out a "pro-life, pro-Obama" position -- disagreeing with Obama's pro-choice views but trusting in his moderate instincts and conciliatory temperament.
So far, Obama has done little to justify this faith. His initial actions on life issues --
Obama's Catholic supporters would feel betrayed and discredited -- and rightly so. The Catholic hierarchy and Catholic health professionals would feel assaulted by the president -- and they would be correct. And President Obama would not need to worry about future invitations from Notre Dame.

I believe (and hope) that this is the beginning of a rupture between the Democratic Party and Catholics. I have many friends who voted for Obama and listened to the likes of Kmeic rather than Church teaching and the intrinsic evil of abortion. They are feeling pretty let down to say the least.
Good timing Catholics.
Better late than never. I always look on the bright side, in that, 52% voted for McCain.
BTW, are you an Episcopalian?
Any Catholic who voted for Obama is well beyond the “Age of Reason” so if they are disappointed, just too damned bad.
Don’t worry about the barn door, that horse is long gone!
Looks like some of the 48 percent of CINOs who voted for Obama, now realize that they made a fatal error.
May they seek the Sacrament of Reconciliation!
Cry me a river. We tried to tell y’all.
About five frickin’ months too late, you idiots!
No kidding. I’m Catholic, and I cannot understand how anybody, Catholic or otherwise, could vote for bambi knowing that he believes in partial birth abortion and infanticide. How can you trust somebody who says “It’s above my paygrade?”
It bears repeating. Good timing, Catholics.
I thought 54% voted for Obama? Not that it matters ... these are all exit polls and probably have no basis on reality.
Though it is disturbing that I’ve heard of plenty of evangelical Christians as well as Catholics who voted for the guy. Sad.
I'm glad our Catholic brothers in Christ are coming around to our viewpoint. But what the heck took so long? His previous positions on abortion were well known. Wasn't your leadership issuing warnings about abortion during the campaign? Were you deaf?
Catholic by birth. Christian by choice
I understood from the get go that Obama wanted to kill babies. I never could trust one itty bitty thing that the murderer in chief said. He has raped and pilaged everything that good people stand for.
It’s always amazed me how folks who call themselves Catholics could justify voting Dimocrat; same way the “good Germans” ignored the excesses of the Nazis, I suppose.
Were you baptized Catholic? Then you still are a Catholic!
I think the numbers were adjusted downward after the election to only 48 percent.
Still much too much!
real smart, ticking off a major religious group just before Easter
Now, now, how many protestants, evangelicals, etc. voted for Obama too?
And how many evangelicals and protestants will you also call “fools”?
Lay off the Catholics, please.
