Tom Hanks Apologizes to Mormons

Hollywood icon Tom Hanks is sorry for calling Mormons who supported California’s gay marriage ban “un-American.”

“Everyone has a right to vote their conscience; nothing could be more American. To say members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints who contributed to Proposition 8 are ‘un-American’ creates more division when the time calls for respectful disagreement. No one should use ‘un-American’ lightly or in haste. I did. I should not have.”

Hanks concluded his sensitive remarks by saying, “To show how much I love Mormons, I’d like to buy every one of them a beer.” He didn’t really say that. We made it up.

Hanks might have added, “I realize that while people like my acting they really don’t give a rip about my politics and I should just shut up and act”, but he didn’t.

I always liked Hanks. Glad he was man enough to step up to the plate, and say “I’m sorry”. Reinforces my original thoughts on the man.

he sat down and figured out the hit to his pocketbook from all the people who swore they’d never watch another film of his again..

What a real “class act.” Perhaps, if Hanks ever insulted a Muslim (don’t count on that ever being the case) he’d offer to send them a ham!!!

At least he said he was sorry. I don’t agree with him on politics, I’m sure, but he seems like a fairly decent guy and I’m glad he helped make the John Adams series.

Not to be all George Costanza, but: Hanks didn’t actually apologize. Hanks said he “should not have” said what he said. Not that he feels regret or sorrow.

From the blog:

He didn’t really say that. We made it up.

As Mormons do not touch alcohol as part of their religion, offering to “buy them a beer” is hardly “stepping up to the plate.” It’s more like poking his finger in their eye - in other words, he just waved the one finger salute and said, “Have a nice day!”

At least it was a real apology and not one of those “I’m sorry you were offended” statements that people call an apology today.

I believe he understands what “unAmerican” means when he uses it to paint his political “enemies” as much as I believe RFK Jr. understands what the term “treason” means when he uses the term to decry all of those who deny the myth of man made global warming.

Their hyperbole is entirely EXTREMIST and hate filled and they are bone heads. Their apologies don’t carry much weight with me. They will need to tone down the rhetoric and engage someone in a public debate.

That way the more words they use, in a moderated peaceful setting, could be used to determine if they really do care to let the other side have a say or not.

I don’t call Tom Hanks “unAmerican” for supporting same sex marriage, but I do decry his politics of absolute intolerance for anyone who’d vote against a ballot initiative.

He didn’t say “I’m sorry”. His publicist wrote it for him.

Please read the entire article before posting twice about the alleged insult to Mormons by offering them a beer.

The story is true according to a Google search. I think Tom Hanks is a bigger man for making such an apology, regardless of his politics. Definitely a much bigger man than a Matt Damon, Brad Pitt, or George Clooney.

Tom Hanks is a liar. Is he twisting the knife with the “beer” gag? I thought Mormons were not big on alcohol. Hanks can go to h*ll.

He and Spielberg got richer off their WW2 films and made for TV films while they support liberals.

Those liberals are supporting “catch & release” where American soliders get killed catching Islamic terrorists while liberals release them. If our boys shoot at or kill terrorists - they face criminal charges and jail.

They want to shut down Gitmo and hire all the terrorists taxpayer paid attroneys who will bill tens of millions. The terrorists will then sue the U.S. Govt for hundreds of millions.

Someone suggested to Pelosi that they move Gitmo to her home town at Alcatrz. She went nuts and said it was a park. The libs love Islamic terrorists just not in their backyard - NIMBY.

Do not support people like Tom Hanks.

I’m glad Tom did say it is unamerican to attack those that voted their conscience! It is American to vote and encourage others to vote for what they believe is best for American, and our nation!
