(Bishop) Bruskewitz besieged!
Off the Record ^ | December 26, 2006 | Diogenes

Brace yourself, Bishop B. You've been "targeted" by the power hitters at National Call To Action, who intend to bombard you with fragrant and well-spelled letters indicting you for failure to comply with the alternative sexualities audit conducted by the Office of Child & Youth Protection. And not only that, but the CTA folks are ratting you out to Bishop William Skylstad, whose own diocese -- so punctilious are its pastors -- has complied itself into receivership.

The NCR reports:

Nicole Sotelo, codirector of national Call to Action, said her organization intends to mount a letter-writing campaign to Lincoln, Neb., Bishop Fabian Bruskewitz, with copies to Bishop William Skylstad, bishop of Spokane, Wash., and president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops.

The letters will protest Bruskewitz's refusal to comply with the bishops' conference policies on child abuse by clergy, she said. Asked about the timing of the campaign, just after an announcement that the Vatican has upheld the excommunication of the Lincoln chapter of Call to Action, she said it would counter Bruskewitz’s "attempts to silence" the organization. "Justice cannot be silenced," she said.

That should rattle 'im. It's the nail polish, I think, that conveys most forcefully Hic est digitus Dei, and I expect the excommunication to be lifted shortly after the Holy See requires coral lip gloss for concelebrant clergy.

Your Excellency,

Please withdraw from the USCCB. Just tell them that you quit and that you will run your Diocese as a Shepherd according to how God would wish you to and with no input from anyone else save the Holy Father, the successor of Peter.

Thank you,
Frank

Bruskewitz is a great guy, if I remember correctly -- really orthodox and not afraid to speak the Truth. Therefore, these people must be Evil.

I think we should mention him by name in our prayers each day. The Mother of God likes to be informed what kind of priests we would like to have! She searches them out for us!

I am a bit confused. What good will writing to the USCCB do?? A Bishop in Nebraska (or anywhere else) is not subject to them, from what I read. If I recall correctly, each Bishop can basicly run his Diocese as he sees fit. The only earthly personage he truly answers to is the Pope (not sure if "Pope" includes the Pope's administrative organization within the Vatican, or not). My impression was that compliance with an organization like the USCCB was sort-of voluntary. There is nothing the USCCB can do (directly, anway) to compell a Bishop should he decide not to "obey".

LOL! They're libs -- they have to do something! And the USCCB is their kind of organization (though increasingly less so from what I read) -- basically leftish, gooey, ineffectual.

They could, of course, write to the Pope . . . do you think that would help their cause? ;-)

My history is fuzzy, but I have a feeling it's been a long time since excommunication equalled "silencing."

They can't tolerate any bishop deviating from the dogma and doctrines of AmChurch:

If we had a couple hundred more bishops like Fabian Bruskewitz, the Church in the US would be in infinitely better shape. He is a man among primates.

I'm still not getting this.
What are these people looking for?

How is the Bishop "not complying"?

I had to do one of these "Protecting God's children" seminars.
The point of the videos was simply, people who volunteer could be child molesters. It was no different than the "Stranger Danger" videos that anyone with kids have seen.

The only incident described with a Priest was a young woman. And the problem is clearly homosexual priests which was not addressed.

Is this the problem that the good Bishop is running into?

The USCCB is a bureaucracy with all the attendant detritus that brings. It is fat with functionaries who oversee the landscape and prepare documents so that the Bishops can attend to "other more important things". The problem is, the documents these people prepare (and some of these people are incredibly heterodox) are often stamped as "Gospel" (witness some of the judgements on Catechetics books and on the issue of homosexuality and how it should be dealt with in a Diocese).

Bishop Bruskewitz is a Good Shepherd. He looks after his own flock and cannot understand why he should be interested in items that have no bearing to their souls. That is what Bruskewitz is concerned about and only that: souls.

I posit that if more Bishops acted as this Bishop does (and there are more coming along little by little), the USCCB will die of its own weight, the NAB translations will become obsolete, the RSV will return and any meeting held to discuss diocesan issues will be done in a solitary monastery where gruel is served instead of in a 5 star hotel for four days with 350 in attendance.

My "maxims" for any meeting is this: hold meetings in rooms without chairs and where temperatures are maintained at or near 60 degrees. It is amazing how quickly things get done!

Frank
