If you want the original, learn Aramaic and Hebrew.

Translations are just that. One opinion of the relative meanings between two languages. As language changes over the years, various opinions on those meanings will happen.

None of the variances of any of the major translations is material, IMHO. The only controversy seems to come from those more interested in sowing discord.

Ain't that the truth. If I'd known this was a "my Bible's better than YOUR Bible" thread, I would have avoided it like the plague.

A very true statement, imho. Sadly.

I love a variety of modern translations. Thankfully, I also love the KJV having been reared on it. But the KJV with ESL students in China and other parts of Asia is beyond silly. It's haughty and a bit cruel and very stupid to try and use the KJV with such an audience.

My current reading is in THE MESSAGE By Petersen sp? and I love the nitty gritty earthiness which seems to best parallel the originals on that score of all the modern translations.
