So we should all learn Hebrew, Aramaic and ancient Greek? Many fundamentalists consider only the King James Version the only true Word of God – and it is actually a rather poor translation.

You are completely wrong about the King James being a bad translation. In fact, it and the New American Standard version have over a 90% accuracy in a word for word translation from the oldest manuscripts extent. Other translations such as the New International Vesion and Phillips have around a 75 - 80% accuracy.

That's not what was implied. Simply that Zondervan shouldn't take liberties with the translation FROM those languages, especially to change the meanings to be more palatable to the gender-sensitivity police.

A rather poor translation of questionable manuscripts, at that. And one that has been updated and changed many times over the years. I'd tell KJV-onlyists to put that in their pipe and smoke it, but King James was a well-known enemy of smoking, so I'm sure they don't have pipes.

Actually it is the very best translation. And it translates from the most conservative manuscript family.

As a pastor, the more I have checked the Authorized Version against definitive language tools like Vincent's and Keil and Delitsch, the better it has fared as opposed to so-called, "modern translations."

To varying degrees, modern versions corrupt the word of God.

And I've noticed over the years that most people who use modern versions either don't memorize Scripture or quit memorizing Scripture---not all, but most.

..Many of us grew up reading, learning and memorizing the King James Version....which is beautifully poetic...

..I now own and read the NIV....

...and agree with SBC and ...Presbyterian Church, PCA..(of which I'm a member) that this Today's NIV..is out of line...very out of line.

It is not a poor translation of the Received text and the Masoretic text.

But it is sure not Hort/Wescott!

Maybe more effort by the reader is required to understand? Admittedly, there are parts we don't understand - yet. As we develop and mature spiritually, so does our understanding/perspective on scriptural meaning and its application to life. No one can fully understand the scripture in a simple, singular context, as it truly is the Living Word.

Actually, learning Hebrew, and Greek isn't a bad idea. It goes along with Latin for a truly Classical eduation, which this nation is, for the most part, lacking.
