When Rush Limbaugh started syndicating his talk radio show over a decade ago, he changed American society. Before Rush came along, AM radio in this country was on life-support. Most radio listeners wouldn't bother to put up with the static to listen to oldies, news, or religious programming that dominated the AM band. Rush came along with his conservative views, took the risk of going national with a talk show and the rest is history. Right-wing politicians and voters have a home and can get a daily fix of conservative propaganda.
But liberals in this country have long wanted the same thing. Now it is being reported that a liberal radio network will be launched in January 2004. Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Neil Boortz, and all the other national conservative talk show hosts are probably lying awake at night because they know that soon liberal talk show hosts will be replacing them across the nation. Yeah, right.
What many critics of the right-wing radio movement don't understand is that Rush Limbaugh is successful because of two things. He is entertaining and people agree with most of his views. Some of the "rumored" hosts of the proposed liberal radio shows will not affect Rush, Sean, or Neil in the least.
One possible host is Janeane Garofalo. I'm sure that she was so popular with her whining before the Iraqi war broke out that radio listeners will want to hear daily gems from her. Garofalo seems to blame everything she disagrees with on FOX News and of course President Bush. One of her most eyebrow-raising remarks in the days leading up to war was that the UN inspections in Iraq had been extremely successful. Most of her answers to tough questions about Saddam Hussein and the atrocities in Iraq seem to be taken off of a second grade playground, "But other people are mean too ... everybody else does it ..."
Then there are the possible guests that this drama queen could have on her show. Maybe someone like actor Johnny Depp. He was recently quoted by the Associated Press as saying, "America is dumb, is something like a dumb puppy that has big teeth-that can bite and hurt you ... my daughter is four, my boy is one. I'd like them to see America as a toy, a broken toy. Investigate it a little, check it out, get this feeling, and then get out." Of course give Depp credit, after making millions of dollars in the Hollywood movie industry he spends most of his time in the south of France, presumably to keep from tripping on the broken toy called America.
Harrison Ford would be another great guest on the "Janeane" radio show. In an interview in Madrid recently he was quoted as saying, "I don't think military intervention is the correct solution ... I regret what we as a country have done so far." To the probable delight of the liberal radio network, Ford was also quoted about the over abundance of guns in America, "... I'm very troubled by the proliferation or arms, at the fact so many people in the United States carry guns ... it obviously contributes greatly to the crime problems we have. I'm sure gun laws should be strengthened in the United States." I'm sure that once Harrison Ford trots out another Indiana Jones geriatric adventure flick, scheduled for release in 2005, he'll probably want to go live in the south of France near Johnny Depp.
Another possible host that has been mentioned for the liberal radio network is Michael Moore. He is the Oscar winning director of the so-called documentary Bowling for Columbine. The voters of the Academy may be fooled but several discrepancies between the truth and what Moore presented in the film have been found. This upset Moore so much that on MSNBC's Buchanan & Press he stated, ""Every fact in the film is true. Absolutely every fact in the film is true. And anybody who says otherwise is committing an act of libel."
The facts of the film have not been called into question. It's the staging of scenes, the splicing of film and the misstatements that concerns people when they are supposed to be watching a documentary. Showing Charleston Heston, the NRA president, giving a speech near Columbine - with the film edited to make his conciliatory statements sound rude - is a bit troubling when it is later learned the speech was actually a year later and 900 miles away.
Moore also stated in his film that the US gave the Taliban $245 million in aid over a two-year period, while in fact the money went to an UN-affiliated organization to help the people of Afghanistan. I once presented a columnist/friend of mine with a plaque that stated, "... Never let the facts get in the way of a good story." Evidently Moore has the same feeling about his films.
Bring on the liberal radio network. It will fail as other liberal talk show hosts have before. It will be probably be based more on emotions than fact, and in the process, insult the views of most Americans.

Of course, the same can be said for a Communist, a Socialist and a Democrat. They are essentially the same! Heck, the Democrats support Saddam Hussein more than they supported George Bush ... so what does that say about them!
Mike
Naw...liberals won't spend their own money, they'll demand taxpayer funds.
Has CNN hired this guy?
Indeed, the Communist Party USA has decided not to field a presidential candidate in 2004 and will instead support whoever the Democrats nominate.
True.
