New L.A Times Recall Poll: Blacks and Asians Need not Apply
Los Angeles Times ^ | October 1st, 2003

Posted on 10/01/2003 9:43:13 AM PDT by Sabertooth

Check out the pdf file for the L.A. Times Recall Poll.
No subscription or log in is necessary.

Here's a sample question...

Q29: Are you more or less likely to vote for a candidate who supports the legislation which allows illegal immigrants to receive drivers' licenses, or does that not make a difference in your vote one way or the other?

------------------- Among likely voters -------------------

LV Dem Rep Lib Mod Con Wht Lat

More likely 13 24 3 28 10 4 10 32

Less likely 43 22 65 13 43 68 47 27

No difference 41 51 31 57 42 27 40 37

Don't know 3 3 1 2 5 1 3 4

Notice that the poll results for Whites and Latinos are broken down for ethnicity, but there are no poll results for Blacks and Asians. This is the case throughout the entire L.A. Times poll.

Why don't the opinions of Blacks and Asians matter to the L.A. Times?

I had to transcribe the poll results and write the HTML from scratch.
Apologies for any typos.

Blacks only make up 6.7% of California’s population and Asians are only 10.9%.

They don’t count.

They do if their vote winds up disproportionately on one side or the other. If that weren't true, no one would worry about "minority" votes. But, we know that Blacks vote something like 90% Democratic. And, I'd be interested in the Asian sentiment, myself.

Why don't the opinions of Blacks and Asians matter to the L.A. Times? (in this particular case)

Because the % of Blacks and Asians opposed to illegals getting licenses would be very similiar to the % of conservatives holding the same position.

Well, I don't recall ever seeing an Asian group in a poll before. As for the blacks, I guess they figure this isn't an issue they are interested in? Or maybe it's the same as whites and only the latinos are focused on this issue as a positive.

Why don't the opinions of Blacks and Asians matter to the L.A. Times?

Because they're white?

Well, I've heard leftist academics refer to asians as "just like whites". Perhaps the editorial board at the LA Times have added blacks to that catagory as well.

Black conservative ping

If you want on (or off) of my black conservative ping list, please let me know via FREEPmail. (And no, you don't have to be black to be on the list!)

Extra warning: this is a high-volume ping list.

[As i mentioned, the B/C & JD! lists are going to float into and out of whack over the forseeable future, while I try to cobble a rig back together for myself. My apologies for any incovenience or misunderstandings in this time frame. New signups/removals may be flaky in this time-frame as well; please bear with me, and keep in mind you may have to FReepmail me more than once for me to get it done. Thanks again!]

Don't worry about us. We're nothing to be concerned about, apparently.

Went out with some friends and friends of friends a few weeks ago for a birthday party at a Beverly Hills hip hop club (for real). Anyway, one guy I met grew up in South Central, never saw his dad, his brother's a gang-banger, and he barely missed becoming one himself. Managed to overcome his risk factors, marry the mother of his son, and had three more.

So we were talking politics, and he's never voted, because he doesn't trust anyone in political power. I told him I was a Republican, and he just gave me this look like "okaaaaaay...," because he's basically never met any.

So we talked for a while, had a good time, and I'm not saying I've registered a new voter, but I think he realized that maybe some of his preconceptions about the GOP weren't accurate. I made sure to point out that was mostly the GOP's fault.

Not sure everyone here gets that.

That's right. Clinton showed up at the black church to give his blessing to Davis and the deal was sealed. Piece of cake.

Because the % of Blacks and Asians opposed to illegals getting licenses would be very similiar to the % of conservatives holding the same position.

Or perhaps closer to it than the L.A. Times is comfortable reporting.

Here are the results of LA Times exit polls for Proposition #187, which would have ended public funds and services for Illegal Aliens had it not been quashed by a corrupt US District Court Judge, and Proposition #227, which ended bilingual education in California...

227 187
Yes/No Yes/No
White 67/33 63/37
Latino 37/63 23/77
Asian 57/43 47/53
Black 48/52 47/53

Sources

227 data - LA Times/CNN exit poll
187 data - California Field Institute/LA Times exit poll

For the record, Blacks and Asians were polling in favor of #187 throughout most of 1994. The L.A. Times' and the Democrats' efforts to demonize #187 as racist didn't get traction until late in the campaign, when leading Republicans like Jack Kemp, Bill Bennett, and George W. Bush started speaking against it.

In doing so, they missed an enormous opportunity to make inroads against the Democrats' plantation treatment of their Black constituents.

They probably just considered the sample too small to do a cross-tab for Blacks or Asians. With such small numbers of each, the results would be virtually meaningless.

After forty years of being pushed to the front, the black population will now have to settle for being margin dwellers. The honeymoon is over and they are locked out in the hall. Liberals don't need blacks anymore. Add the fact that the black population never increases as a precentage of overall population and you have a recipe for long snub by the elites. Maybe this will be a turning point in how the blacks see themselves as players on the political horizon.

Based on this poll and last weeks USA Today poll, it looks like the recall is going to pass and Arnold is our next governor. Can you say Governor Schwarzenegger. You can maybe say it but you sure as hell will not be able to spell it.
