Consistent with Al Gore moving the presidential election into the courts in his attempt to steal the election, the recall will probably be decided by those marvelous California judges, who have already voiced their disapproval of democracy in striking down California's initiatives that don't comport with with good, liberal dogma...

Exactly! This logically makes all elections held in what, the last 50 years, void!

"If the election is put off until March 2004, the Democrats will defeat the recall effort."

Perhaps sensing a short, quick, easy campaign going down the tubes, "Arhnold" will drop out.

I believe it's only leftist minorities that have trouble with the voting system.

Keep in mind that California has the greatest concentration of conservatives in the nation. We just happen to be diluted by the greatest concentration of liberals.

Yes, the court has stopped an election. If Grayout Davis was elected to office with the same equipment....then why not do the recall with the same equipment? Oh, that's right, Davis is going to lose the election, so it has to be stopped!

Have these poor, helpless minorities EVER voted using any OTHER system than punchcards? I haven't in my entire life of voting, but then again I have pale, glowing fingers, apparently enabling me to punch the chads with ease.

If they make the disenfranchised minorities use high tech voting, won't they just be throwing them into the dreaded Digital Divide?

SAN FRANCISCO: Supreme Court.

Monday, September 15, 2003

(09-15) 10:28 PDT (AP) --

"In sum, in assessing the public interest, the balance falls heavily in favor of postponing the election for a few months," the court said.

It was not immediately clear how the decision, if it survives, would impact the campaign in California's first voter-driven election to unseat its chief executive. The court stayed imposition of its decision for a week to allow time for appeals to the Supreme Court.

One possibility is that the nation's largest and most liberal federal appeals court might move the election to the next regularly scheduled primary on March 2.

The Davis camp, and major Democratic and Republican candidates hoping to succeed him, have been waging an all-out campaign blitz of broadcast messages, fund-raisers and appearances throughout the state.

The San Francisco-based appeals panel overturned an Aug. 20 ruling by U.S. District Judge Stephen V. Wilson of Los Angeles, who said he would not delay the recall election. Wilson said it would be acting against the will of California's voters. In July, Secretary of State Kevin Shelley said more than 900,000 signatures of registered voters were collected to force a recall, and by law had about less than three months to call the hurry-up election.

State law also required Shelley to move from the March ballot to the recall ballot the only two voter initiatives that qualified for the ballot. Voting on those measures also has now been delayed.

"So what you are saying is that if the electorate has time to give serious consideration to the recall, then it will behave more rationally? "

Actually, my understanding on this is that the march vote will be concurrent with a dem. presidential primary, meaning more democrats are likely to vote than in the current oct. recall. Having only one competitive primary concurrently with the recall will skew the party representation of those voting.

Fox: 9th circuit based part of its opinion on the world's view of our election, NOT on U.S. election law.

This delay will insure the Davis recall, and the defeat of Bustamante.

The Democrats and the 9th Circuit have overplayed their hand

True...
