DEAUVILLE, France - Roman Polanski finally took home his Academy Award statue for best director this weekend, nearly six months after winning for "The Pianist."
Harrison Ford, a friend of Polanski and the star of his 1988 movie "Frantic," handed the director the prize Sunday at the Deauville film festival. Ford also had announced Polanski's win at the March 23 ceremony in Los Angeles, which the director didn't attend.
Polanski faces arrest in the United States since pleading guilty to having sex with a 13-year-old girl. He was charged with rape and five other felonies in 1977.
As part of a deal with prosecutors, Polanski pleaded guilty to having unlawful sex with a minor, then fled Los Angeles for Paris in 1978 to evade sentencing.
The 70-year-old is presiding over the jury at Deauville, on the Normandy coast.
"The Pianist" won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival, and also earned Oscars for best adapted screenplay and best actor. Adrien Brody starred as Polish-Jewish pianist Wladyslaw Szpilman, who eluded the Nazis in the Warsaw ghetto.

Harrison Ford, a friend of Polanski...That was all I needed to hear. I am NEVER watching another Harrison Ford movie again.

Ford is against Bush. I'm sure he would vote Bubba back in office, if Bubba was allowed to run again.

Maybe, but who in their right mind befriends a convicted a child molester...?

The girl was 14, as was Juliet when having her affair with Romeo. Girls used to marry at 14; that simply is not the same thing as "child-rape".

It is an interesting argument. Should academy awards only go to decent law abiding human beings? I dunno...

Mr Polanski is more than welcome to plea his case before the courts in the US. But I doubt he will...

The girl in question was a film groupie of some sort to boot. Not what you'd call the best of conduct on Polanaki's part, but it's not exactly like he walked into an 8'th grade classroom and asked for volunteers either. There are enough real reasons for hating Hollywood that I don't really picture anybody needing to invent them.

Depends on whether it's HO or not.

Sorry, my most likely libertarian friend, but you can't even pull that argument out of your hat.
The record, which was reproduced at the Smoking Gun, indicated that Polanski drugged the girl first, got her drunk, and then raped her forcefully. This was not some "little tease," who "wanted" what she got.

Recently Ford was bashing Bush and current American foreign policy (especially Iraq). I'm surprised that it took this article for you to say that. I haven't seen a new Ford movie since Patriot Games in 1993 (?).

Mr Polanski is more than welcome to plea his case before the courts in the US. But I doubt he will...Especially since he already pled guilty.
He ran to avoid his sentence.

But befriending, honoring and posing for pictures with a convicted child molester?
That's just so off the chart immoral I can't abide it.
