The 800 Pound Gorilla That Will Elect Tom McClintock
FreeRepublic.com ^ | September 6, 2003 | Avoiding_Sulla

Posted on 09/07/2003 9:15:30 AM PDT by Avoiding_Sulla

Let's keep this simple.

The 800 pound gorilla is the one that would attack Senator McClintock were he wrong about being able to rescind those contracts.

First, here's the underlying plan regarding the issue that is most important to the opposition in Tom McClintock 3 issue platform in his run for governor, right from off his website at http://www.tommcclintock.com/tomsplan/energy.cfm. He has made every effort to tell the world about it.

Void the Energy Contracts

Second, how do you know it's most important thing to the opposition? Because, out of all the scheming to get Senator McClintock off the ballot, to make it appear that he can't win, has been the opposition's complete silence on the matter.

This is so obvious, you know that my suspicous nature has caught wind of something very important to all of us.

You know that most probably McClintock is right on this issue.

You know because the opposition doesn't want to challenge him because any challenges must eventually lead to proving that McClintock is right.

And the media plays along and doesn't make an issue of it either, because McClintock is right.

Because in spite of my tag line, as a lifelong Californian I am certain that I am equiped to survive any further damage, even the total financial collapse of the state, as well as any "Republican" and better than anyone dumb enough to vote for Bustamante for ideological or political reasons

What an interesting argument. Vote for a loser and put up with the consequences, no matter what. NO THANK!!!

Way to go Bryan! Good, listing of good arguments are something our opposition just has none of.

I'd like to be pinged if any S-S answers you sans their standard bloviations. Don't hold your breath, 'cause I'm not.

Did you notice how quickly the first 2 posted, even before I could put up my pings at number 4? Do you think they read any of it?

They help make it ever so obvious that McClintock is right!

Blah blah blah. You ARE spamming by posting more and more McClintock posts every chance you get. And many of them are redundant. And you ARE hijacking FR by blasting anyone who dares disagree with you. MANY freepers are simply NOT posting because of you guys. THAT'S hijacking the site, IMO.

Get over yourself, Mr. Moral Superiority.

Excuse me .. "wasting taxpayer dollars"

How come you're not more worried about TEXAS tax dollars that your wonderful democrat senators are wasting while they lollygag in NM.

And .. how do you know that the conservatives in California WANT McClintock to do whatever he can to VOID those contracts. You people from out of state are clueless.

McClintock is right, but he is unelectable as a governor in Mexifornia. That's reality and you must accept it or you will let Cruz be gov.

Had the CAGOP supported their candidate wholeheartedly, Simon would be governor now, despite his ineptitude as a candidate. As it was, the GOP leadership (Gerry Parsky) refused to raise the money he promised when he took the job, withheld funds raised by President Bush until Simon's campaign manager (Sal Russo) signed the Log Cabin letter, Parsky refused to fund GOTV or registration efforts, and stipulated Simon hire Wilson/Jones (remember "Fire Gray Davis"?) and Ed Rollins (the famous fundraising photo) as campaign consultants. The resulting GOP turnout was low by historical standards. Had it been close to normal, Simon would have won.

That Bill Simon came as close as he did with those kinds of handicaps is PROOF that a competent conservative CAN win in California. That's the dirty little secret of the California Republican Party leadership, and the one thing they don't want is for those who would otherwise support Tom McClintock, but don't believe he can win, to realize it.

To Sinkspur: Good morning, deacon!

It is reasonable to ask Sinkspur where he got his law degree. I got mine from the University of Connecticut and Carry Okie is right on this one as is McClintock.

Avoiding Sulla is making his point eloquently. We are, to some extent, being distracted by the relentless trash talk out of the RINO herd. There are issues and they ought to be advanced even if Arnold and his supporters are too cowardly to meet the arguments.

Sinkspur: the last crack is not aimed at you. At least you are trying to discuss the issue raised. You are just wrong, a least on the record, so far.

You comments re: "bleating", "sheeple", "bloviating", "FReepin' Schwarzenschmucks", is certainly an interesting tactic for convincing others to change their minds.

I agree - and if Cruz should win - you haven't seen mad! because all the RINO's whimped out and wouldn't vote for a real conservative.

Either way, we must make this issue the grassroots buzz all over the state

Well, OK, good luck. "Grassroots buzz" has never impacted any election higher than city council or port commissioner, but have fun.

He cannot simply "void" them; rather, he will waste California taxpayers dollars trying to take them down in the courts, and the energy companies will fight him every step of the way.
In the end, he will lose.

That is also my asumption.
My other assumption is that legal debts must be paid off. There is no escape. There is no debt fairy.

The State is not allowed constitutionally to practice deficit spending, yet there is no penalty for their doing so. First thing that needs to happen is an initiative called Legislative Incompetence Act. I am serious. This would prevent deficit spending, and really egregious acts like leaving the state to prevent quorums, a la Texas.
The penalty must be mandatory serious jail time, and forfeiture of all benefits including retirement, or barring that, restitution.

None of us, on a family level, can ever earn enough money to address all the "good" things that we can imagine and set right. Why should a state be allowed to?
And then there's the out and out outrageous funding of things like gay parades or teaching mandatory Islam in all our schools.

California is one sick state. Fix it now or prepare for a fiscal funeral and/or a civil insurrection. Legislating legalized extortion can only work so long.

"it's not going to happen"

How can you possibly know that ..?? I mean that is a very reckless statement. Like I said .. you need to stick to TEXAS issues and leave California to take care of theirs.

McClintock is clearly the best candidate, but Arnold is tne most electable. That being said, there is no reason to believe that Arnold will not adopt the same position on the energy contracts if the position has merit.

That makes about as much sense as anti-recallers complaining about the cost of the recall. The deficit currently increases at a rate of approximately the cost of a recall per day and a half. The cost of fighting these contracts in court (and I don't think the energy co's will put up that big of a fight from the PR perspective) will be about 3 or 4 hours of deficit growth... Well worth the odds...
