Hopeful autograph seekers began to wait outside the Bunch of Grapes Bookstore on Main Street in Vineyard Haven Saturday at 5:30 am to secure a number that would guarantee a place in line for Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton’s book signing scheduled to begin at 4 pm.

When Mrs. Clinton arrived, the line stretched along Main Street and around the corner up Centre Street. For the most part, the hundreds of people waiting to purchase a copy of Mrs. Clinton’s book, “Living History,” and meet the author were good humored and patient.

Robby Bick, bookstore manager, said Mrs. Clinton was very relaxed and pleasant and took much more time with people than he had been led to believe she would during the advance discussions about the event. Mr. Bick said that may have been because this was the Vineyard and the last stop on her book tour.

The publisher’s contract called for Mrs. Clinton to spend an hour and a half signing books. She stayed for more than two.

Mr. Bick said the bookstore needed to make several unanticipated adjustments to its plans, but most people were patient and understanding.

“There is not much you can say when the Secret Service says this is the way it has to be,” he said.

Mr. Bick said a total of 564 books were sold, the second most in any one day. The record for the most books sold in any one day, more than 600, is still held by author and Vineyard resident William Styron for his novel, Sophie’s Choice.

Mrs. Clinton's supporters far outnumbered a handful of detractors holding signs
and wearing masks across the street from the bookstore.

I hope Hillary, Bill and fans get a copy of this issue of the MVTimes while vacationing...

Great work, everyone!

Picture snippet author used "detractors" instead of "protesters". I guess the left has copyright on protesting.

They should change the name of the book store from a Bunch of Grapes to a Pack of Nuts.

Also, 'a handful' becomes 'many' when it's leftists.

Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton signed copies of her book, "Living History," for one of many well-wishers Saturday who waited in line at the Bunch of Grapes Bookstore in Vineyard Haven.

The blood-red lipstick is a fitting touch for SATAN's sister to wear...

The "Martha's Vineyard Times" is a rag.

After this it can go back to covering socialite teas and other foo-foo functions.

I dunno. I'm rather fond of Hanging Fruits.

That picture puts me in the mind of our fellow FReeper extrordinare, HillarysLovelyLegs, asking her face-to-face, "Who is that on the cover of your book?"

Classic!

Oh my....Purple eyeshadow, turquoise jewelry, pepto pink suit, bright red lipstick!
Hil's trailer trash look is evident. How nice for the Martha Vineyard folks!

Do you give them one last wish before they hang?
