Sniper weapons should be restricted (California Freedom Grabbers)
San Jose Mercury News ^ | 7-28-03

A .50-caliber BMG sniper rifle, in the wrong hands, would be terrorism unleashed.

The gun is powerful enough to punch a hole in an oil tank or take down a civilian airplane. Its 5 1/2-inch long bullets can pierce an inch of armor 40 yards away and hit a target a mile away. A massive weapon, with some models weighing in at 28 pounds, it's ill-suited for hunters -- it would take out a deer and the tree behind it -- but ideal for assassins.

The burden should be on those who want .50 caliber sniper rifles to explain why, not on government to justify restricting them.

It's none of your f'n business why. Last I checked, we were innocent until proven guilty.

How does someone who brands himself as a Republican get elected in Santa Cruz, anyways?

Incrementalism... the left's evil plan to control firearms. A 300 magnum (rifle) will bring down an elephant. Where does it stop? 50 caliber rifles were standard issue in the civil war.

Congressman Henry Waxman, in his speeches advocating such a ban, always mentions the ability of the .50 cal. to pierce armored limousines.

Maybe he has a guilty conscience?

Who has the "Vote from the rooftops" picture and knows how to post it? Most appropriate for this thread!

"it's ill-suited for hunters"

It's also ill-suited for stirring soup -- So friggin' what?

They've gotta think the Second Amendment only applies to hunting. No other explanation.

"Assault weapons" wasn't evil enough? Now they have to label things "sniper weapons"? What gun kills more people in America than any other? I'll bet it's the .22

This reminds me of the kung fu movie I saw a few weeks ago that showed a slo-mo of a bullet in flight - still in the casing. Sounds like they've got some real firearms experts on this.

How long before we are reading that a .50 caliber can knock a train off its tracks?

Rephrase that to be:

What a bunch of BS.
