I think the Democrats are being set up. (Why is everyone so worried?)

Being a newcomer to Free Republic, I have noticed a sharp decline in confidence in the Bush administration lately over the WMD and SOTU issues. I don’t understand why this is, so I thought I might post a thread soliciting opinions on it.

I am wondering how many Freepers really believe that the Administration does not know what it is doing. I also would like to hear why many of you seem so concerned over Democrat and Media attacks on the President, when he has shown himself to be completely capable of handling these attacks skillfully.

I firmly believe that the Democrats are being set up for a massacre, akin to the one in the movie The Godfather, where the Corleone’s took out all their enemies over the course of a single afternoon. My opinion comes from a couple of things; primarily the fact that Bush, through Ari Fleischer, made the announcement about the unreliability of the section in his speech, not some democrat attack dog. On top of that, Bush has shown more patience and restraint regarding Iraq than Clinton did. He went to the U.N., so did Colin Powell, and even gave Saddam a deadline before taking military action against him.

If the White House only wanted to invade Iraq, why would they give anyone any warning or deadlines before attacking? Would that not only place our troops in more danger? I have gone back and read some old threads here about the war, and I came across a couple discussing “The Art of War” by Sun Tzu, and how the administration might have used that philosophy in their war plans. I have owned a copy of this book for a few years, and I have been reading it lately because I understand that Bush and Karl Rove have used this book in their political strategies. If this is true, then what is going on right now is classic Sun Tzu, and the Democrats soon will not know what hit them.

There are two passages in particular that stand out in my reading;

1) “Make your enemy grow proud and arrogant by expressing humility and weakness.” 2) “Create opportunities for victory by arousing your opponent’s anger and causing him to take foolish actions.”

The point is; there was nothing going on in the media, other than Howard Dean, Lacy Peterson, and later Kobe Bryant. The Iraq issue was losing steam in England after Blair was cleared by Parliament. It was the Bush Administration themselves that brought the issue back to life, not the Democrats.

The media was just gearing up for their “Howard Dean is really a Moderate” campaign, and the other Presidential candidates were moving their focus from Bush on to Dean also. Dean was either about to be attacked or crowned “front-runner” by the media. Bush was getting little media, and Congress even less. Now, everything has changed. The focus is back on Bush, and no democrat is going to get any Media attention unless they have quotable quotes against George Bush. In the mean time, no one seems to have noticed that both the Child Tax Credit and Prescription Drugs bills are about to be killed in Congress. No one is even talking about it. You also have every Democrat out there talking impeachment, calling the administration incompetent, dishonest, and anything else they can think of. Democrats are going on record that the war was wrong. INCLUDING JOHN KERRY, who had originally tried to have it both ways on the issue.

Senator John Warner has said that there is new WMD evidence to be released after declassification. The British are standing by their WMD intelligence. Condoleezza Rice says that the Administration was not wrong in Bush’s statement. To me, this looks like covering statements for what I think is about to happen in the coming weeks.

I believe that Bush is going to release a huge amount of documented, cataloged, unassailable proof of WMD of every kind. I think the administration has been secretly gathering data, to avoid contamination and doubt by those hoping nothing is ever found. I believe that when the evidence comes out, that it will be so voluminous and meticulous that no one will be able to dispute it. You can’t do that kind of reporting in dribs and drabs of data and expect any impact. I think Bush is going to drop all of it on the world all at once with the force of a nuclear strike.

In my opinion, it is the only explanation for what has been going on. I have no intuition in these matters, but whenever I see Bush, Rummy, Condi or Powell on TV, I see no hint of panic, fear or worry. I also see Media and Democrat rage and anger beyond any rational explanation. These people know all the same facts that we know, yet they are going off on a sixteen word sentence in a speech as though Bush had slapped their children. They have nothing, and they KNOW they have nothing. But they will use what they wrongly consider to be an issue, to generate public support for an ‘investigation’ which would allow them only to make more of the same irresponsible accusations.

I think the term is called “FUD” for “Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt”. This is all the Democrats hope to accomplish. They believe that if they can bring Bush’s numbers down, they can gain some traction. They don’t need any facts. They really don’t even WANT facts, because those facts would work against them. I still see people in the media saying that we need to get the power restored in Iraq! This is because that same Media refuses to report on the positive things happening over there, so many do not even know that almost all of Iraq’s power has been restored, and that they have more power right now, than they had under Saddam!

Democrats think that if you can keep facts away from people; you can fill their heads with whatever you want them to believe, which is unfortunately quite true. This morning, I came up with the following analogy:

Before Bush, Republicans were used to fighting Democrats similar to how we used to fight wars. We would try to fight little battles, gathering territory, changing hearts and minds through our kindness and generosity. We would win some battles, but lose others and treat our enemy with more respect then they treated us. When it came to large and important battles, our side usually lost, because we were unwilling to fight as hard and as dirty as the other side. Democrats thought of Republicans as pushovers and they were right. They thought they could beat us anytime they really needed to. Then, Bush wins the Presidency, against all the pollsters’ predictions and Democratic fraud. Democrats went on the attack, and have not let up at all. But while Democrats attack, Bush says almost nothing in response. Democrat’s turn up the volume; Bush ignores them. In the mean time, Bush beats them on every issue. Some republicans worry about Bush moving to the left on some issues, although nothing that concerned us has been funded to the point of actually hurting us. We’ve gotten the issues, while the other side did not get the money.

I remember Ari Fleischer’s announcement months before hostilities in Afghanistan and Iraq began, that the administration would make MISINFORMATION a part of their foreign policy. I never forgot that. It means that even if they say they wont, they of course they will, and the denials would be the same misinformation that they SAID they would use. Every time the Democrats and Media have attacked Bush on any issue, they have ended up looking bad, but still coming back with more of the same.

Therefore, I think Bush is planning to NUKE the Democrats and the Media once and for all, before he is reelected. Just consider the impact of reams and reams of WMD evidence dumped on the world all at once. It would be a plain massacre of every Democrat and Journalist that has been attacking Bush for the last year. There are too many quotes out there. Too many attacks; too much hiding of positive information for the Democrats to survive. They will howl and scream, but to the general public, they will be seen as liars, losers and villains, while Bush will have ultimate victory and vindication.

If I am correct, (and I could go into this deeper but I wont) Bush will win such a big victory, that it will also cause a filibuster-majority in the Senate, and an overwhelming majority in the House also. Bush will pick up larger portions of Jewish and Hispanic voters; the economic recovery is already underway. When Bush came into office, he asked Tom Daschle to never lie to him. Right now, instead of leading the Senate, Daschle is fighting for his political life. Democrats are placing their presidential hopes in Howard Dean? What does that say?

I think with a little perspective; there is much room for optimism, instead of all the worrying and doubt that I see on other threads. If Bush is our man, why not have a little faith? I think it will be rewarded in due time. Thanks for reading my ‘vanity’ it won’t happen again, but I wanted to get this off my chest.

-Jolly.

My apology. I looked at your home page and realized that you are not a drummer in a heavy metal band, but a military man (woman?)

Lots of FReepers are hand-wringers. Anything negative, and they start second-guessing themselves, as if the media presents reality.

Some, like the departed TLBSHOW, go completely bonkers, and have to be kicked off the island.

Interesting, however, it has been so long since the arguement that we havent found WMD, that when it is announced, I am not sure anyone is going to listen.

We have an ignorant populace, they will accuse Bush of fabricating the evidence because of the late time period it took to reveal the evidence.

I have noticed a sharp decline in confidence in the Bush administration lately over the WMD and SOTU issues.

I'm pretty new too, but I'm not sure there has been a "sharp decline." It seems the anti-Bush types were always that way, except lately they've just gotten louder.

Those with a gripe or a bone to pick are always the loudest. I'd say most here still have a high level of confidence in W. I know I do.

Interesting read, thanks for posting it.

Many Americans are out of touch with what's really going on.

I briefly spoke with several people at a community gathering two weekends ago. All of them said they would vote for Dean simply because "anyone is better than Bush."

Then, I asked them if they were aware that Dean wants taxpayers to give back their refunds.

They stood in disbelief. "Are you willing to give back your refund?," I asked.

Dead silence.

I trotted off, "Watch the f*cking news once in a while, people".

"Senator John Warner has said that there is new WMD evidence to be released after declassification...."

They may be circumstantial evidence for your thesis based upon the behavior of Florida Senator Graham who is also running for the Democratice Presidential nomination. A couple of months ago Senator Graham was making loud noises about "intelligence failures" and was generally questioning the wisdom of going to war with Iraq.

Since that time he has been notably silent on the entire issue of WMDs and intelligence. Graham is member of the Senate Intelligence committee and may have been privy to new information. He is conspicuous by his recent silence on the topic.
