Hundereds of those arrested in the last [Iranian] riots will be brought to speedy trials in order for the public to witness the decision of Islamic 'justice' on their cases.
Sources within the regieme are confirming the decision made in an extradordinary meeting of the National Security Council to issue and execute death penalties against many of them for 'Spying for the United States,' 'Attempts Against National Security' and 'Armed Action Intending to Overthrow the Islamic State.'
The move intends to go on by a series of public executions and to spread information on the cases of other protestors who are executed within the regieme's penitenciaries.
The Islamic Regieme hopes to increase its policy of Fear and Terror at the approach of the July 9th Student Uprising and National Labor Strike and by this way avoid mass participation in the rallies on that day.
Tens of those arrested have been placed under duress and torture in order to sign confessions on their links to the 'US Secret Services.'
These prisoners are under the special guard of the officers of the Intelligence Directorcrat of Pasdaran which is responding directly to the offices of the regieme's Supreme Leader.

OK, is there ANYTHING we can do about this, some legal standing upon which the US can act? Human-Rights abuse? Something?
If they do this, I hope all hell rains on them from those already resisting.

My guess is that they want this over before July 9. That apparently is the date four years ago of the last uprising and the government has been concerned that people will turn out en masse to celebrate it.

Me too, but I was also hoping the protestors could head it off by taking over. Not realistic, I know, but hope rarely is realistic.

The mentality of the 8th century being brought to the front page. That should do it! They are declaring war against the population, expect the bloody revolution to begin. The isolated assassinations of mullahs will soon make news.

The regieme is probably done and finsihed if the Labor Strike on July 9 goes through, the Mullahs know this and it looks like they are pulling a Tianemen Square maneuver here.

THis could, just could, be the "tipping point" that causes Iran to break out into full civil war....now, suppose the secularists..the majority of Iranians who like the US..announce a provisional government and appeal to the US to intervene and help stop them from being slaughtered, well, by George...w'eve got a few brigades, and lots of air support, nearby..

We didn't step in then, and I've always thought we made a mistake. I think we held back only because China had a pretty big stick. Iran might have the bomb already, but I think we need to risk it, IMO.

Not. Overt American intervention would make the US the issue. If they martyr the protesters, all hell will bust loose.
They will be patriots. Natan Hale's spirit lives on; "I regret that I have but one life to give for my country."

Where are all these human rights activists when you need them. They're busy licking their wounds inflicted by the cruel and oppressive policies of OUR government. Don't you know that when our local "peace" activists riot, they are sometimes pushed? Yelled at? Detained for HOURS without internet access or Starbucks or ANYTHING??
This won't even show up on the liberal radar screen. The mullahs will slaughter these people and the left will be busy making picket signs crying about the "plight" of the "oppressed Palestinians."

sounds like something right outta the pages of the book 1984...if you ask me we need about 2 teams of spec-ops s.o.c.o.m to go in there and get there people out...they cant do this alone (the students)..
most of us have seen this before (tiannimen square anyone?) at least as far as the uprising goes at least..this new twist (sad as well) to the story with these executions..the only thing i can say is (to quote kurt russell from "tango and cash") this whole thing..F-cking sucks

The mullahs are clearly insane. If they do this, there will be zero reason for resistors who are still free not to begin shooting and bombing.
If you will be hanged for marching, you may as well be hanged for shooting a mullah or blowing up a vigilante's home.

There is NO reason for "overt American intervention."
The CIA can very easily smuggle in a few hundred (to start with) pistols and rifles of the exact same type used by the Iranian police and military.
No American fingerprints on "liberated" Iranian weapons.

You apparently discount the fact that Romanians are civilized. When their time is up, I suspect these oppressors are going to fare worse than Ceaucescu.

Agree on the tipping point however, I don't believe they would call for US assistance. I've been to a few Iranian boards to read things from their perspective. They don't want our help for a variety of reasons, and I agree with them. If they do it themsleves, they then have a better understanding of what it takes to secure and hopefully keep freedom.

If you will be hanged for marching, you may as well be hanged for shooting a mullah or blowing up a vigilante's home.A desparate and foolish move indeed. The mullahs are hastening their own demise. If these executions are massive, public and carried out by mercenary thugs from other countries, my guess is the military would then make their move to eradicate the leadership, end the slaughter and begin the move to democracy.

You can't "do it by yourself" if unarmed crowds are being machine-gunned.
The Iraqis couldn't "do it themselves" any more than Russians could in 1934.
The key is to help them while retaining deniability.
The solution is to smuggle in weapons that are identical to current Iranian police and military issue, so that the freedom fighters will have a fighting chance, and their weapons will be assumed to have been "liberated" in street fighting.
The problem is that our limp-wristed DoS has castrated the CIA, so this covert action will probably not happen, and the freedom fighters will be slaughtered.
